If you baby SPITs up ALOT....Edited 10/24/07 with another question

When did it let up?

I have a happy spitter, and I am sooo tired of getting puked on, going through 6-8 bibs a day, 4 cloth diaper burp cloths...and doing countless loads of laundry a week...So gross, plus it makes her smell like cheese!

Please tell me that i only have a couple months left of this...Amelia is 4 months old.

mommies-so how many bibs do you own?

My favs are the dribble happy bibs from Carters, i must have like 20-30 of them, and i still have to wash bibs every 3-4 days.

ETA 10/25/07-What kind of bottles did you use and do you think if you changed bottles it helped?
DD is on Doc browns...my dry baby was on advents..Do you think it will make a difference?

Thomas still does this at 6 months. I know EXACTLY how you feel!! I can't wait for it to stop too. Not a day goes by that I don't walk around in public with spit up all over my clothes! I usually go to work with spit up on me and don't even think twice about it...

Ok so at least there's others out there that get puked on all dayChat Icon

My mom will ask if she smells like cheese before she'll hold her, i swear if it were up to her i should be giving her a bath 3 tmes a day.Chat Icon

Poor ameliaChat Icon

What do you guys use to take stains out of bibs/clothes?

I've been using Tide sensitive and baby oxyclean, and it's worked well, but that neocate now is turning my bibs greenish/yellow.

Re: If you baby SPITs up ALOT....

Marron continued until she was pretty much on almost all solid food. Even when she was eating baby food for her 3 meals, she still spit up the formula that I'd give her. I would have to say it ended sometime around 10-12 months. There was never really a day that I said "hey, she didn't spit up today" but all of a sudden she just wasn't doing it anymore. It did decrease as she took in more food, but she still had trouble keeping the formula (thickened with rice) down. And since then, she has still spit up regular milk a handful of times.

all my girls were spitters...DS does spit up but not really a lot. It has definitely become less since I started putting cereal in his bottles.

My twins spit up until about 6 months and my eldest was OVER a year.

DS did it up until he was eating solids 3 times a day so I guess around 7 months he stopped. But once he started to crawl it started again but it only lasted a month and then stopped. I had him on the Enfamil A.R. and their was a huge improvement from when he wasn't.

Re: If you baby SPITs up ALOT....

I must have have 50 bibs and 30 burp cloths.

I basically walk around with a burp cloth in my hand for 1-2 hours after he's done eating.

I hate it the most when I take him to visit people. I have to keep vigilant the whole time.

I keep saying "he's the king of spit up, be careful!"

He especially likes to spit up on Donna. Chat Icon

Re: If you baby SPITs up ALOT....

It was REALLY bad until 6 weeks. Then about every other or third day until about 4.5 months ... since then, mostly small spit ups. The only major one recently was because he gagged on his food and it caused him to spit up bad.

It is the worst!

I would always bring this up to the ped. His response would always be "he's a happy spitter, he's gaining weight, he's doing great".
Then the next month he introduced us to Enfamil Lipil A.R...OMGosh it was like a miracle.
I think DS has been on it a few months now. Have to say the spit up has definitley reduced. I'd say he was about 6 months when it stopped.

Re: If you baby SPITs up ALOT....

My DD was like this - she would be smiling when she was spitting - and it drove me crazy. She was definitely spitting up more than what I would consider "normal".

It turns out that she had acid reflux. We tried her on Zantac, which made it worse Chat Icon but after we switched her to Axid, it was like night and day!

The only typical reflux symptom that she really had on a regular basis was that she would spit up more than an hour after eating - no screaming, arching of the back, etc.

At 9 months we took her off the axid and she was fine Chat Icon Some babies take longer to have the flap between their stomach and esophagus mature.

If you think DC is spitting up too much, definitely talk to your dr about it and if you aren't satisfied with the answer, go see a GI. We did and it literally changed every day life!

Re: If you baby SPITs up ALOT....

He spits up a lot, but it got better when he was put on Zantac and a little better even when he started eating more solids. But I still hate it when I pick him up at daycare and the first thing he does is spit up on my work clothes!

I use baby oxyclean and it works wonders!

Re: If you baby SPITs up ALOT....

It finally got better for my DD. (she's 6 months) She still does it a little sometimes but nothing like she used to. When she was a newborn all she did was spit up all day long. I did wash about 2 times a day including all of her bibs and burpie cloths as well as all the clothes she spit up on my DH and me.

People never understood they kept thinking its so abnormal for a baby to spit up that much. Hello... she has acid reflux.Chat Icon

Thank goodness it does get better.

My son didn't spit up at alll until he was 11 months old, then it was spit up city! It was when he started to walk...he would drink some milk, run around, and then BRAPPPPPPPPPPP spit up all over everything. It stopped at maybe 15 months. Gross.

Re: If you baby SPITs up ALOT....

OMgoodness, there's hope but it's seems so far away! Gianna was a dry baby, but she had silent reflux. She hardly ever spit up, i put away the burp cloths at 3 months old, we weaned her from prevacid at 16.5 months old finally.

Amelia though, She has acid reflux, is on prevacid from 5-6 weeks old, and she's on Neocate for a protein allergy.
I thank goodness neocate doesn't smell as bad as alimentum, that stuff was worse!

That formula is so thin, so from the reflux it comes right back up.

I so follow people around at other houses, they don't believe me about the puking, til they get it all over them.

My doc says she'll grow out of it around 6 months maybe, i just hope so for the sake of my clothes and furniture!
