We don't exchange bc we spend all on the kids. This year I got dh gifts from the kids and spent 100.00. My birthday is the day after Christmas so we spend a lot for those dinners every year .

Other: we pretty much buy ourselves what we want throughout the year, and aren't in need of anything. A few years ago we started adopting a family from our local church and giving to them instead of each other, so that's our "gift" now

We're taking a trip this year instead. But usually we don't exchange anyway; we just buy what we want throughout the year.

DH and I rarely buy eachother gifts for Christmas mainly because we would rather save the money to use on other things like bills  This year I did spurge on him a little but thats only because he has been working really hard at his job and he really deserves it. Otherwise, no gifts for either one of us.

We don't exchange. We buy what we want all year. If we buy something around a holiday, we say it's from the other. I Bought a new bag last week, merry Christmas to me! Thanks honey.

if we want/need something we buy it durring the year.... \
If we want something more luxury that we don't want to spend on then we can ask for it from my IL's for xmas or bday.
One factor is that we share our money..... I could see if we had separate accounts that it might be more exciting to buy a gift.

I posted a poll to answer.
I guess I am shocked at the amount of co-workers who think it’s strange that Dh and I just don’t exchange since we now have a child. Plus we buy for ourselves during the year.
Same here. We focus our time to shop on DD, and we just treat ourselves whenever we really want or need something. For us, it's not a budget issue at all. In fact, it's more that we spend so much year round that we don't need an excuse to buy at XMAS.

We always exchanged gifts, even after kids, but we can't afford to this year.
Same here. We have each other's love and friendship, the rest doesn't matter.

We don't exchange...we're fortunate enough that we are usually able to buy what we want throughout the year so there's nothing left for Christmas. We do fill each others stockings, but that's just with little stuff & treats (like razors & hot cocoa). We used to do 1 big gift for us/the house (like a new a TV), but we're all up-to-date and there's nothing that we really need anymore so it's all about the kiddo! When it comes to ourselves, neither of us are really into gifts so it's all good.
Pretty much this. Anything I really want is ridiculously expensive (like many thousands of dollars) and really not practical for where I am in life. DH generally only wants computer and geek stuff which I have no clue about so we just buy what we want, when we want it. We try to come up with a few small things that the kids can pick out and give each of us, that's about it.
This year we also took an extra vacation so I said that was my gift.
