If you give or receive homemade holiday cookies - questions

1) If you have received them, would you eat the cookies that you were given or do you not like to eat food from other people?

2) If you have given them, do you specify if any of them have nuts, peanut butter or is it a given that someone with allergies would probably not take a chance eating any?

I don't usually bake cookies to give as gifts but this year I bought a ton of ingredients and had my oven going for 8 hours on Sunday. I know I made them in a very sanitary fashion and if my kids helped on any - they know they have to wash hands first and I remind them countless times about not licking fingers or spoons or anything gross like that. Still...I wonder if people just ditch them...

ETA: JMO but we made some really awesome cookies!!!

I always bring in homemade cookies to work every year. I know that no one here has allergies. And the guys eat them all up!

I only recieve...I am a cook but not yet a baker, I plan to tackle that next Chat Icon I do bake WITH my mom (she is a fantastic cook and baker...no pressure Chat Icon )

Anyway..I eat whatever I am given or at least have a taste (I am not a huge sweets person...).

I have no allergies.

We have bake sales at my school and I eat whatever the kids make...

I know some people are fussy about things made by others but I'm not.

Re: If you give or receive homemade holiday cookies - questions

Unless a stranger gives me homemade cookies (which would be weird), we'll eat them. Why not? We'd eat their food if the friend invited us over for dinner, right? Unless it's something I don't like, I'll have some.

I don't bake with nuts, so I don't have to give that warning when I gift homemade goodies... but if I did, I'd probably say something.

I always eat them if we get them from someone we know. But actually, when we moved into our new home four of our new neighbors brought us cookies and we ate all of them, I guess we aren't too picky Chat Icon Chat Icon

I made so many bc in addition to us eating them and having them for family on Xmas eve & Xmas - I got small boxes and gave some to my DD's Daisy leaders, DS's speech therapist along with a DD gift card, bus driver along with dD card, kids' teachers in addition with the group gift from the classes... So in many cases, they're not strangers but not people I generally bread bread with.

Some of the cookies are PB - these darn cookies with the PB cup in the middle are going to be the death of me if I don't give them away!!

Homemade cookies and baked goods this time of year is great! I make them for friends and family and receive them and always eat it!

I let people know whats in them when I give them out, but none of my family has any real food allergies.

In that situation, I'd eat them, too. I sometimes give my secretary homemade goodies in addition to her holiday gift... She usually eats them and puts them out to share with others in the office. Most people have some.

I'm really not grossed out by eating food other people make.

I agree.

I don't really cook but if I had nuts in them, I'd include that in the "I backed some nut-___"

I'm always making stuff for work. Our boss's wife made us cookies too and I eat them. Unless it's something I don't like, I won't eat it.

I'd be a lot thinner if I didn't eat the food gifts people gave me. Chat Icon

I love getting homemade stuff. I think the people who don't/won't eat it are in the minority.

Re: If you give or receive homemade holiday cookies - questions

If we receive them, we eat them.

I do bake and give cookies and I do include a note if anything has nuts in it. The people I work with have several children with food allergies of various sorts so I am much more conscious of letting people know what's in the stuff I bring in.

I don't eat cookies from other people. I'm ok with bakery cookies, but with my allergies, i don't risk it.

I definitely understand the food allergy concern.

Allergies aside (for me), I figure most people are more sanitary in their kitchens than most bakeries. Chat Icon

I eat them. I ignore the fact that some people are slobs and gobble them up.

I might not eat them if someone gave them to me who had flies swarming their head and dirt under their nails... but then again.. they ARE cookies...

Re: If you give or receive homemade holiday cookies - questions

I am a teacher and I do not eat any food the kids bring in, because I see some of the disgusting habits they have and god knows what their kitchen looks like. (I have literally seen roaches jump out of backpacks).
If it comes from a friend or family member, then yes i eat it

I give cookie tins to close coworkers then a big tray of communal cookies for the other people in the area.

I never tell people that they have nuts in them... I hope that's OK. I am kind of the other way and would think that if someone had an allergy and wanted to eat, they would ask me if they had nuts in them.

Re: If you give or receive homemade holiday cookies - questions

Most people I knoe with allergies do ask.

If I put something out at work or brigning to a party, I owuld eitehr not use nuts, or put a warning, but usually I know if people are allergic or not.
I always eat things people bring into work.

I don't usually give home baked things to people I don't knoe that well, like my super, b/c I figure they won't eat it & I don't know if he has allergies, or other diet restrictions.

If I were a teacher, bus driver, scout leader, etc I might not eat things from the kids, but I eat things at parties & I don't always know the people that brought them.

And I eat things DH's uncle makes & know his house is gross! Chat Icon Chat Icon
