If your child was 8 months or younger when Christmas rolled around....
how crazy did you go with toys or gifts?
The twins will be just shy of 8 months by Christmas, and we are debating the number of toys we will get them, because right now, you could give them the box or the ribbon and they would be satisfied.
Does the same hold true at 8 months. I fiugure next year, we can shower them with alot of toys.
Plus, they will be getting lots of gifts from family, since it will be the first Christmas

My dd got so much from our families that we really did not need to get her anything. We did though. We kept it small. One toy, one outfit and her first ornament.

DD#1 was 9 months for her 1st Hanukkah and DD#2 was not even a month for her 1st... I didn't buy anything for either child, they got enough from family...

I am sure your DC's will get tons from family - this year I would stick to maybe a sentimental gift and a small toy. Maybe even wrap a box with curly ribbons or something and let them play - they would probably enjoy that.

DD was 6 months. We got her a wagon which we forgot about - so gave it to her for her birthday.
I didn't really bother with gifts - she got so much from family.

I have to admit that I went a little overboard with Lucas. But there was no stopping me...so in the end it was more for me than him. You're right in that a box is just as exciting to them at that age so it's completely what you are comfortable with. As far as my own personal opinion...I do think that it's nice to have something...anything...for them to sit in front of all wrapped and ready to be torn. Makes for a cute picture and just adds to the festivities.

Re: If your child was 8 months or younger when Christmas rolled around....
Ryan will be 9 months and I don't plan to go crazy b/c I know the grandparents will. I'm actually trying to start a list of what he'll actually NEED now so we don't end up with a room full of age inappropriate toys. I'll be requesting more outdoor stuff for the spring, and clothes, and g.c.
From DH&I, I'm sure we'll get one "big" gift - some kind of toy, and a few little things. I doubt we'll spend more than $150/$200 this year.

We gave Victoria a few small items (5 months). She liked the lights on the trees the most!

Lily was 7 months at Christmas, so she was just starting to really play with things....she got a lot of stuff from the grandparents, and we bought her a few gifts. I wanted to have some presents to wrap and put under the tree...not really for her - mostly for pictures on Christmas morning!

ITA. We also bougth DS alot for his first Christmas and he also received tons form family, and it was so much fun to see him tear into it all and wrapping paper flying everywhere, it was lots fo fun to watch and we got so many great pics!
What we did with all the presents once he opened them all up was to put some of them away and he would get a few a time as he grew into them more KWIM.
Remember depending on when your DC birthday falls, he/she may not get any other presents until then, so its nice to have a new toy to play with everyonce in a while.
Anyway I plan on going crazy again this year, I can try and say that I won't but who are we kidding

Michael was 4 months old on his 1st Xmas. We did a few toys and the radio flyer wagon which we knew that we would use with him when the spring came around.

We didn't go crazy at all, we let the grandparents do that. for the last 2 xmas's we got them 1-2 gifts each from "Santa".
We celebrate Hanukkah and Xmas..so there was no reason for us to go nuts, THEY GOT TONS OF STUFF from everyone else.

DS will also be just shy of 8 months at Christmas. DH and I are planning on getting him a sled (we can't wait to take him out in the snow this winter!), and maybe a few other things. He will definetly have things to open Christmas morning. But the bulk of his gifts will come from grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. Since this is his first Christmas, I know they will all go CRAZY!!

Re: If your child was 8 months or younger when Christmas rolled around....
DS was 5 days old for his first christmas..I had bought him 1 gift prior to his birth, it was really more a daddy gift (a toy fishing set)
Anyway so this christmas DS will be 1 year old and honestly I am not going nuts. I think we will buy him maybe 3-4 smaller items and leave the rest for family. Even if he loves openign the gifts, he will get so many between his b-day and christmas he wont know that some were "missing"
With that said, at 8 months is a great toy age, DS is now almost 9 months and he really plays with toys, favors certain items, gets excited when he sees certain things etc.
