I had a great experience my first time around, so for the second, I would probably encourage them to keep the $700.00 a night for the private room and put it towards DC's college fund or something else they would need.

They do that alreadyChat Icon Chat Icon It is $260 a night extra.

I am going to take them up on their offer.

The problem is, and I am sorry if this comes out the wrong way but sometimes the class of people that come to this hospital aren't the greatest. My roommate with Andrew was into gangs and her BF would come in and they would talk about rival gangs, etc. I was soo scared. Every time I would tell the nurse I was scared and to leave the door open, the BF would come right back over and close it.

I don't want to take a chance. Thanks everyoneChat Icon

Oh my God! I'm supposed to give birth at the same hospital too, you are scaring me, I do not know much about the hospital yet...did you have any other problems? I guess the rest of your experience was not bad since you are giving birth to your second baby there again. I should then find out about private rooms when my time comes.

I'd say that if you had that experience and it will make you anxious, your parents just want you to feel comfortable and if its not a big deal for them then go for it. As you said DH won't be the one sleeping there Chat Icon

The hospital was FANTASTIC!!!! Andrew was in the NICU and from the person that took my temp to the people in NICU, they couldn't do enough for me. They also gave me soo much extra stuff that was really helpful. They were all fantastic. The food was decent but that is expectedChat Icon

I think I just really got a rare seed in my room but I don't want to take the chance. It was my only bad experience there.

When I was in pre op, the nurse was changing shifts but she wanted to see me have the baby so she stayed late.

I even sent the NICU something after because they were all just great!!

Sorry to scare anyone that is going there. This could happen at any hospital. And like I said is probably rare and I just got lucky almost 3 yrs agoChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Go for it! Hey, they're getting a new granddaughter! It will be nice for them to visit you in a private room.

Snagging one at Winthrop was FANTASTIC!

I think NY is WAY behind the times in not offering private rooms to all patients. Since I left NY I've never been to a hospital that doesn't have private rooms for all patients (maternity or not).

To answer your question yes. If my parents offered and could afford it I would definitely take them up on it and maybe do something nice for them at a later date.

absolutley!!! They obviously want you to be comfortable. If they didn't want to help, they wouldn't have offered. Enjoy

I say let them pay for your private room!! They want you to be comfortable.. and you will need the rest before going home to two babies and a dh.

Re: If your parents offered to pay for a private room...

Of course! Why wouldn't you!??!?!

I haven't even discussed this with DH because I think it is just a given that I will request a private room. I don't care what he says, I'm getting a private room if it is available. When I'm in labor, I really can't see him arguing with me.

Re: If your parents offered to pay for a private room...

TAKE IT!!!! I had a private room at around $200 a night and it was money well spent, IMO. One of the things I thought about was that we weren't going to be taking an expensive vacation anytime soon, so I didn't mind spending the $$ on the room. It made the whole hospital expereince much better, IMO.

I wasn't so worried about the other mom and baby so much as I was about dealing with the other person's visitors coming and going. Some people get a TON of visitors and I just didn't want to deal with that.

Re: If your parents offered to pay for a private room...

The hospital where I delivered only has private rooms and it was great. If I were in your situation, I'd definitely take them up on their offer.

Re: If your parents offered to pay for a private room...

Not sure where your delivering- but I just had my DD January 6 @ St.Charles...They have 2 private rooms at extra cost ( we payed for one with my DS) , all the rest are shared...But because apparently Jan is not a busy month, we all ended up with our own rooms anyhow Chat Icon ....Not sure how it goes w/ your hospital, but with mine you cant request a private room until you get there, so maybe you'll end up lucking out and having a private room without your parents paying after all...If not, I say to absolutely take them up on it, so long as it doesnt cause a hardship of-course Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: If your parents offered to pay for a private room...

I would not even think twice about accepting their offer! How generous.. and sooo worth it. I am actually thinking of getting a private room this time around because last year, my roommate, while very nice had a very annoying mother who bathed in really bad perfume every day before visiting. Ugh...

Definitely! I think it's very thoughtful of them. You will be more comfortable as well as the rest of your family when they visit.

TAKE IT! I paid for a private room and it was the best. Worth every penny. It was only $200 a night at Winthrop. I was able to rest and didn't have to worry about anyone elses family.

OMG-YES-for sure!!!!!! Just the thought of sharing a toilet is totally appalling!!! That was the first thing I asked for when I got to the hospital!! Also if they have 9 thousand visitors you won't get any rest!!!!!

As long as they could well afford it - absolutely.

ITA.

I'm delivering where i am b/c i can get a private for free. It's just not a situation that i'd want a roommate in, if avoidable.
