If you're a SAHM, what age did you start preschool?

Just curious what the avg age most moms start if their child is home.
I worry 3.5 (if I wait til next Sept) is too old for Ryan who is currently in daycare, but wonder if I was home when I would consider starting him.

Good question. Want to know the answer as well. DD is 2 but I am trying to think ahead.

Jack went two days a week (2 hrs each day) last year at the 2 year old program.

This year he goes 3 days for 2.5 hours.

Next year Tyler will start the 2's going three days a week.

Well.... Ale started at Spanish school last year, when she was 2years 4 months (2 days, 2.5 hours, without me). But she started regular nursery (3 days, 2.5 hours, w/o me) this past Sept. at 3 years 3 months.

My kids did a mommy and me program at our preschool starting at two, but it was just one day a week for a few hours. They started going to the drop off nursery school twice a week at age three.

DD started about 6 weeks shy of 3. DS will be starting about 3 months shy of 3 but he'll be there for 3 years, not two b/c he misses the cut off. I would have held him back anyway b/c he's a boy.

My DD was 2.5yo. She was in daycare FT before then so I felt we would be depriving her if she didn't get that classroom socialization. She only went 2x a week for 2.5hrs and she still does at almost 4yo.

DS will be over 3.5 yo. His bday is in December so he will not go to Kindergarten until he is nearly 6 which would give him 2 years of nursery school beforehand.

Teddy goes to Nursery School now 2 days a week. (He just turned three).

The 3 year old class starts the September after they turn 3. 3.5 isn't too late.

Jordan went for 3 years before Kindergarten. She is a Jan. baby so she was older, but still did her 3 yrs. She was 2.5.
Peyton will only do 2 years, she will start this Sept and she will be 3yrs 5months.
I felt the 1st year that Jordan went was a waste, I think 2 years is perfect. JMO

DD started at 2 years 4 months. It is a two day a week, two hour a day program. Not sure I would have started her so early if I didn't have my other DD but am very glad I did. She thrives in school and she loves it!

We started at 2. I'd planned on starting at 3 but DD had severe stranger and separation anxiety that I wanted to start working on, and DS was slightly speech delayed and his doctor thought that being in school would help (which it did)

DS started at 2.5 years old.
2 days a week, 1-1/2 hours per day


Now at 3 years old, he goes 4 days a week, 2 hours per day.

I've been a SAHM since dd was born and I just enrolled her in preschool this year. She's 4.
We didn't do nursery school b/c of medical reasons and such..but I am so glad we didn't. She is doing just fine now, adjusted well and is loving school.

John started Nursery School in September at the age of 3.5. He has a December birthday so he will be going to Kindergarten at 5.5.

DS was just shy of 3 ( by 1 month) ...I was on modified bed-rest with placenta previa and felt tremedous guilt issues for not getting him out to socialize...The first 2 weeks he had some seperation anxiety and then suddenly at the 2 week mark, the cloud lifted and he LOVED it and has ever since...So glad I ended up starting him when I did ...Now that he's in kindergarten he has such a huge advantage !

DD started 1 month shy of 3 in the 3 y.o. program.

DD#2 will go to the 2 year old program, but she is a January baby so she will be 4 months shy of 3 when she starts.

DD #1 was definitely ready at almost 3 and I think DD#2 will be when her time comes. She is much more verbal and social and I think at that point she will need the extra stimulation (and I will need the break!)

I don't think 3.5 is too late to start though - most of the kids in DD's 3 y.o. program did not attend a 2 y.o. program the year before.

I started DD at 2.5, mainly because I felt she needed to be around more kids her age. She did playgroup/playdates, but since she had no siblings, needed more. It was the best choice for her. She loved it and I saw such a difference. She started going 2x/week for 2.5 hours each time.

I started DS this past fall...he will be 3 in January. I went back and forth if I should send him since bc of his bday he would go to preschool for 3 years before kindergarden if I did, but I decided to--it's only 2 AMs a week for 2.5 hours. He enjoys it and it's good for him for seperation. Next year I will do 3 AMs and then at 4 he will go 4 or 5 AMs

I probably won't send my DD (she's 2 now) until she's 4. I want to have her home with me as long as possible and being a teacher I'm sure she will be plenty prepared for Kindergarten with little Pre-K beforehand. I belong to a Mommy group so she gets to spend time with other kids for socialization. I am in no rush to send her to school, I like being with her all day.

I was a SAHM and I decided to send my kids to school in September when they were 3 (they were 3 in May, so they were nearly 3.5). they did well and had no issues at all.

ETA: At 3 they went 3x a week for 3 hours a day. At 4 (pre-K), they were 5 days a week, with some extended days.
