I'm about to pull my hair out

My DD is 5 weeks old and for the past week or so, she has been INCREDIBLY fussy. She is sleeping a bit over night (waking up every 3 1/2-4 hours for a feeding), but during the day, she refuses to nap! She will be EXTREMELY tired and literally fights falling asleep. I've tried the swing, pack n play, bouncy seat - you name it. I've even taken her in the car, where she will fall asleep, but once we're home and stop moving, she wakes up. We've recently increased her formula, so it's not that she's hungry (she's eating more than enough). Tonight, it took me an hour and a half to settle her (she wasn't screaming the whole time, but was on an off crying) where she finally fell asleep on my chest. I just put her in the pack n play because she's been sleeping for a good forty minutes on me, and she's off crying again. Does this sound like the start of colic??? Chat Icon Any advice? My DH goes back to work in a week and I can't imagine being home with her everyday without being able to put her down.

ETA: She loves the pacifier and it does help soothe her, but the SECOND it falls out of her mouth, she starts screaming. I am up a ton of times, back and forth to the pack n play, to put the damn thing back in her mouth Chat Icon

do you swaddle? i would try that first. it doesn't sound like colic to me if she sleeps well at night.

how is she when she eats? does she cry, arch her back, or spit up a lot?

Not at all! I would suspect acid reflux, but she eats like a champ - no crying, no arching of the back, and never throws up!!

Re: I'm about to pull my hair out

This doesn't sound like colic to me. At exactly 6 weeks my son did the same exact thing. I would spend hours on my rocking chair in the backyard just rocking him forever.

I ran out and got a bunch of books that helped me understand what he needs sleepwise. I highly suggest reading them. Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, and The Happiest Baby on the Block (which does the 5s - sshhh, swaddle, swing, suck, and, side position.)
