I was jealous- until I read the statistics about the percentage of women with incontinance after a vaginal birth- now I'm happy.....

on the flip side, i know it was probly easier for u to clean your incision than it was for us to squirt warm water down there, have it BURN LIKE HELL, and bleed down there for a couple weeks....yes, we can walk after giving birth, but it doesnt feel THAT great....ugh, the changing of the maxu pads, the cleaning of the stitches from tearing..... Chat Icon Chat Icon should i continue??

ITA!!!

Here's something I'm certain that the c-section girls don't have to deal with... having the BD feel totally different after a vaginal delivery. It's still not feeling the same to me... 3 months later!!!

I had a VB and I WISH I couldve have had a c sec...if I could I would have requested it!
not saying what you went thru was easier by any means, but after you heal...you dont have to deal with the err..."after effects" !
I dont have full control of my bladder anymore, and I will never be the same "down there" (sorry-TMI!)!!!!!

Yes I felt like that for a long time, and still do sometimes, but I've heard a lot of horror stories from vaginal births too so I guess it's not always all it's cracked up to be. But yes, when I hear about someone's fast and easy delivery, I do get a little green with envy.

Re: I'm jealous of moms who had a vaginal birth

I wish I could have gone and had DD the old fashioned way, like you see in the movies. But then I might not have a healthy kid because she was in distress. The thought 'better safe then sorry' kinda gets me over the thoughts about wishing I had the vaginal experience, at least DD is healthy!

I personally don't care less-- it's not like I look at it in the mirror.... Chat Icon but, I guess if you are a L&D nurse and you stare at them day in and day out, you notice the difference?

But seriously- she said something about the weakening of the pelvic floor?

Yes but its not that great either...the vaginal birth. Yes you do get back and recover quickly but things are so never the same down there.
Not to get TMI but using tampons...um....forcely getting used to it now...7months pp. because I hate pads.
Sex feels different. Maybe why I dont do it that often.Chat Icon

Does not bother me in the least that I never went through a v birth or had even one contraction. My c-section was needed for the health of my boys and I am fine with it. I had an amazing recovery and the surgery itself was a breeze. So no i don't have any jealousy or pangs that I never went through "real labor". I am just incredibly happy that I had two healthy boys and a healthy recovery.

I personally loved having a c-section and never wanted a v-birth. But thats just me....Chat Icon

But I wanted to tell you that the second c-section is a million times better than the first. I had little pain, I recovered quicker, and I was back to my normal routine within a week.

I think about it too and do get upset sometimes. My mom and my sister both had C Sections as well. After 30 hour of labor (no contractions, only dialating to 2 CMs) I was waiting for the DR. to say C Section. It was killing me. I just wanted to meet my little one already.
After my c section, my Dr. said to me "I did the incision, so, next time you can try vaginally if it would work"..Something to that effect.
Honeslty, I think I am going right for the C Section! I don't think I can deal with all of that stress and anxiety of waiting, waiting, waiting...It was not fun.

ETA: With my C section I think I recovered faster than my SIL and other family members that had vaginal birth.
I was out of bed the next day walking Bryan around the maternity unit in his little bassinet. I know my SIL was sore from vaginal birth for a while.

Re: I'm jealous of moms who had a vaginal birth

I actually struggled with this prior to having my c-section. I knew that I was going to be a scheduled c-section since DD was breach, and I had a very hard time with it.

I had been so looking forward to the excitement of going into labor and feeling contractions and feeling as though I had truly accomplished something amazing by giving birth. I felt like I was being denied something and was going to be less of a woman / mother because of it, even though it was best for DD.

I did make peace with it prior to delivery, and when all was said and done, it really didn't matter. DD was healthy and that was most important.

I was up and walking around, though slowly, the next day, and the bulk of the pain disappeared 2 weeks pp.

And I did like the ability to be prepared...I knew when DD's birthday was going to be, I knew when I had to have my bag packed, how long I'd be in the hospital, etc.

For #2, I will likely have a c-section again (though I have said I would like to go into labor prior to the scheduled date just to feel contractions...).

I had a vaginal birth and honestly - the healing from my episiotomy was pretty painful too. Be thankful you never had that to deal with!

The episiotomy definitly s--ked. I had one DS and then again with DD but with DD the incision wasn't as big.
Another thing that was painful, for me anyway, was sex. Almost 5 months later we finially DTD this week and it was still uncomfortable (we did try 3 times before this but I just couldnt). It was sore. When I went in for my IUD 2 weeks ago my OB did tell me that I was still a little raw. So besides feeling sore if we do BD, if we don't I feel guilty now because of saying no.

Re: I'm jealous of moms who had a vaginal birth

I had a vaginal birth with DD at 33 weeks PG, totally unexpected. I would trade with anyone who had a C-section full-term to not relive the nightmare of having a preemie in the NICU and wondering what I did so wrong to have to give birth 7 weeks early.

So, while I understand those of you who would have rather had vaginal births...I would have traded places with anyone not to have gone through what I went through when DD was born.

We are all mommies in the end...and when you leave the hospital (some of us without our babies!), you don't win any special prizes for having a vaginal birth over a c-section Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had a C-Section and I was so scared of a Vaginal birth! I can tell you that it was much easier having sex with a C then vaginally (according to my friends)

im telling u, u can TOTALLY VBAC!!! and dont let anyone tell u different. many women have done it, and u can too. if having a vaginal delivery is something u really want, then your dr will allow u to have one (i think u have to wait a while longer before getting pregnant and stuff, just so that the uterus is fully healed or something)....but u CAN do it. so do it!

Absolutely! ITA 100%. I had a c/s with my first. It was a wonderful experience I fully prepared for (he was breech). I had an excellent recovery and never, ever felt like I didn't give birth just because I didn't push him out of my hoo-ha.

When it came time for my second, I KNEW there was no reason medically why I had to have a repeats c/s. It wasn't so much that I needed to experience a v-birth because I didn't have one the first time, it was because I knew it was possible and I didn't want anyone telling me it wasn't, at least without me TRYING.

And it went beautifully. Yes, I do have to say that having the VBAC and recovery were 1000x better. And maybe it was that much better because I had a toddler at home and wanted nothing more than to be home with my 2 babies. But either way, I gave birth twice and both were absolutely wonderful experiences, not matter how they came out of me.

Re: I'm jealous of moms who had a vaginal birth

wow - i didn't know about the whole having sex after a vbirth. interesting. Like I said, I am happy I had a csection (I demanded it after no progression after the induction) and really wanted one from the beginning. I just thought Vbirths seemed easier from what I heard...but - the grass is always greener on the other side I think! Chat Icon

I don't think this is necessarily true in all cases, I had vaginal birth and we had no issues, I really think that all births are different. No two vaginal birth are the same and no two c-sectin births are the same.

Plus I would think you would want to less with a c-section because of the healing??

Re: I'm jealous of moms who had a vaginal birth

My doc had no doubt that I was going to delivery vaginally but after 12 hours with Lucas having a hard time getting his head in place I was the first to speak up and request a c-section (I was so scared - everyone kept saying how big he was). But the doctor's wanted to give it more time and gave me more epi's to help out and sure enough I delivered vaginally. I did tear but had no idea it happened and honestly my recovery was amazing. Never a problem with the tear - barely felt anything from it and healed super fast. Sex hasn't been a problem either thankfully.

With that said...it was a great experience and one that I am happy I had but I know that if it had to be a c-section I would have been just as happy with that experience...because of the end result - my little man.

When asked I think I would prefer a vaginal birth the next time around...but the main reason is because I already know what that is like - what happens, how it happens and the healing process. I would be nervous over the c-section ONLY because I have never been through it. Does that make sense?

I think that every experience...regardless of c-section or vaginal...is amazing - equally in my opinion.
