Injectables with IUI question..
For those who did injectables with IUI, I have 2 questions...
1. Are you allowed to have sex while you are doing the injections? I read that during the stimming phase of IVF, sex is not allowed...wondering if the same is true for the "injectable" phase with IUI..although the amount of hormones is way less than if you are stimming for IVF.
2. Did anyone do this and feel like it's a waste of time? My RE almost suggested going straight to IVF rather than injectables with IUI (if clomid doesn't work). His reasoning was that injectables with IUI is almost as much work as IVF and you can control the risk of multiples better with IVF. However, my reasoning for preferring injectables with IUI is cost (I have zero insurance coverage) and 2 less surgical procedures (retrieval and transfer). Any thoughts?

Re: Injectables with IUI question..
For question #1; I never heard that EVER. I do know they like for you to have sex after the IUI's; like the night or day after to cover all bases. So I cant understand while stimming would be an issue.
And for question #2; unless the DR is paying for these treatments; I say do as many IUI's as you are comfortable with. There's a ton more involved with just injectables for IVF. I love how your RE made it sound like its so similar. LOL What about all the other crap you have to take; along with the day of; anesthesia, etc.

Re: Injectables with IUI question..
1.never heard of that
2.adding injectables is no where near the amount of "work" as IVF
I'm Really surprised he said that
Injectable a are adding a shot.
IVF was a boatload of meds

1. Never heard of that.
2. We got pregnant on our second iui/injectable round after 4 bfn on clomid. I would definitely give it a try before IVF if you can plus its cheaper.

Re: Injectables with IUI question..
1. Never heard of not being able to have sex while stimming. I HAVE heard that you should abstain at least 2 days before IUI (I would judge it based on follicle size- if I was anywhere close to a 15-16mm, then we wouldn't ), and then day of IUI, and the next day to increase chances.
2. It all depends on your diagnoses. In my case, I have pcos and don't ovulate, and DH has slight MFI, so we decided to give IUIs a shot since we couldn't afford to delve right in to IVF (no IF insurance).

Re: Injectables with IUI question..
1. I know there is a period for no sex to be sure sperm is plentiful but fresh.
2. True about increased chance of multiples. I was ok with reduction at that point (versus super risky pregnancy). For me, the IUI was a complete bust, but it did help select my IVF protocol. I have super dominant follicles, so I need suppression. Best to figure that out wasting less $$.

I completely disagree with your RE. IVF is a big commitment - financially, emotionally and physically. IUI with injectables is just a tiny bit more "work" than Clomid. And Clomid doesn't work for everyone - like me! Tried Clomid a few years ago and had BFNs. Moved onto injectables and had DS from my first round of IUI with injectables. Then last September we tried again and now I have a 1 week old DD from IUI with injectables. With DS I had 3 follies and DD 2 follies. Only 1 took each time. I definitely think it's worth a shot!

Has your doctor mentioned Femara instead of the Clomid. Maybe ask your DR if you can do Femara next time. Thats also a pill that usually has less side effects than Clomid.
The injectables come in more variety; but all in all, they do the same thing. Some injectable name brands off the top of my head are, Follistim, Gonal-F, Bravelle, Menopur; etc.
