Is anyone else waiting until 6 months for solids?

I feel like Logan is the only little one not eating solids yet.

He'll be 5 months Friday and I see lots of posts with younger babies already starting them.

Is there a reason to start them earlier?

I won't with my next one. I had ped pressure at 4.5 months...that Josh looked hungry and I won't produce enough milk for him.

He never ate. It caused so much frustration. Constantly offering meals. Its one thing to clean a mess after your kid eats, its another to clean it after he refuses to eat twice a day.

He did not start eating till 8.5 months.

we are waiting to 6 months as well.

I dont think there is a need to introduce foods yet. Formula and BM is really all they need nutrition wise.

I waited till 6 months with all 3. Till then I EBF.

Our DD had some problems with reflux at the beginning. The dr. wants to wait until she is 6 months before going on solids.

I would have waited but DD was so hungry from just BM and formula. She really wanted to eat solid food and it wasn't something we just did. She was such a happier baby after we started. But we did go very slowly and didn't replace FF with food. She really only started having meals with food at 6 months. I think its fine to wait.

I waited till DD was over 5 months. You get so many opinions- my ped said between 4 and 6 months so I split the difference. Then I had people wondering why I didn't start her earlier because she ate a lot and is big for her age. And another friend really leaned on me to wait till 6 months because she thought it helped to avert food allergies. It can be very confusing!

We waited. I was in no hurry. Just before his 6 month B-day I started thinking he may be ready, so we gave it a try.

we didnt start until just after 6 months. dont feel pressured to start before if that is your descion. i definatly felt pressure to start sooner but stuck with my gut feelings that my son wasnt ready.

We did cereal at 5 months. Veggies at 6 months and fruits shortly after.

I was really torn on this issue. My Ped. suggested it because DS was BFing every 1-1.5 hrs. DH and I discussed and at 4.5 mths we decided to try it and see how DS reacted. I figured he would let us know if he was ready or not. He loves it. I give him 2 small meals of solids a day, but his main source of food is still breast milk. You really have to go with your gut.

I wanted to wait for 6 months, since it is recommended. But, I waited until DS was 5 months...I will be going back to work soon and I wanted to start while I was still home.

If I was a SAHM I would have waited the full 6 months

We're planning to wait until Lily is 6 months to start. She's thriving on formula and doesn't seem to want anything else, so I hope to hold out for another 3 months.
Our pediatrician said it's ideal to wait until 6 months because of the risks of food allergies before then. And I have a feeling solids will make life a bit more complicated....and I'm happy with the way they are now!

I started two weeks ago at six months... only since then she has had some very fussy days and now I am not sure if it is the foods or teething. I am very confused about it and kinda wish i started the food a little bit earlier....

I introduced solids with my first DD at 3 or 4 months (mistakenly thinking it would get her to sleep better). She had so many problems with food allergies, that I just won't do it with DD #2 - No matter what people say.
With DD #2 I started to introduce oatmeal at 5 months - once a day... now at almost 6 months she is getting oatmeal 2 x's a day. And if she doesn't want it, I don't force it.

Don't feel pressure to introduce solids... they get most of their calories from BM or formula.

I am waiting until 6 months. I am EBF and that is all she needs until then. My PED is suggesting I give start her with rice ceral now so she gets used to it and swallowing. However, she's got such a sensitive digestive system that I see no need in giving her something that's going to cause her more issues. She's getting all she needs right now with my BM, so... I'm waiting til 6 months.

I had my eldest daughter almost 14 years ago. Since then the recommended age for starting solid foods has changed numerous times. The reasons for and againest starting early have switched back and forth as well...Start early to avoid food allergies...wait til a year to avoid food allergies....etc etc etc...

As long as your child is getting enough to eat what difference does a few months make???? Do whatever you feel comfortable with.

We didn't wait, BUT, if we are going to be out or we get caught up doing something else I don't bring stuff with me. Like Saturday and Sunday, he only got bottles, but today since he was home with DH and SIL, he got oatmeal for breakfast, sweet potatos for lunch and turkey for dinner. Today was the first day for meats, my ped told us to start them at the 5 month appointment.

ds is 3.5 myhs and i give him oatmeal once per day and he loves it. u have to do what is best for your child.

I started spoonfeeding Jack cereal at 3 mnths per my ped.

Jack was also 18.2lbs - and drinking wayyyy more formula every day then he should have.

i waited until 6 months. there is no need. they get everything they need from formula. imo.

Well we have "started" but haven't really had any success yet. But I won't sweat it until 6 months or so...
