is it ok to swaddle a newborn when he/she is sleeping?
DH and I like our house really cold. Last night he said when the baby gets here we can't have it this cold, i said i know, especially at night since she can't have any blankets. he disagreed. i know we can't drape a quilt or any type of blanket over her, but can we swaddle her at night/when shes sleeping?

oh yeah, try swaddling when she sleeps...it may be a lifesaver! I like using the miracle blanket best! receiving blankets never seem to stay put!

You can definitely swaddle while sleeping, or use a heavier pajama - its actually safer to keep the baby in a colder environment, it reduces the risk of SIDS - my DH was so excited to hear he can keep his A/C on now if we can only get him to swaddle ME before bed!

It's ABSOLUTELY ok to swaddle while they're sleeping. For the first 5 months, that's the only way we could GET DD#1 to sleep. I always did a heavier pj with a onesie underneath & a lightweight swaddle.

You'll probably have to swaddle or you wont get any sleep, EVER! lol
Seriously though, it's definitely ok to swaddle a newborn. They'll do it in the hospital and I'm sure you'll continue to do it when you get home.
And like a PP said... the Miracle Blanket is a lifesaver!!

Of course....it's actually good to do because it not only keeps her warm, but also prevents her from startling herself awake.
Try the Miracle Blanket. DD slept well in it. And it's not too heavy.

I would DEFINATELY swaddle at night. I would also swaddle during the day if your DC naps in their crib.
This was the ONLY way my DD slept for the first 6 months of her life!

neither of my kids were swaddled, they HATED it...if it works, it is great though (MOST babies love being swaddled)
