Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
Tyler isn't sleeping so great at night - I think it's a combination of things and am trying to figure it out.
He gets swaddled in the Miracle Blanket but has to have his arms out. I'm thinking that if he has his arms out, what's really the point of swaddling? It's such a pain in the butt to constantly redo the Miracle Blanket that I'm thinking of maybe just putting him right into a Sleepsack.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
I swaddled my DS for the first month and a half. He was 11 pounds born so I found it really hard to find a big enough blanket. Then I used extra large swaddle me blankets I bought at BRU, never tried the miracle blanket.
Does he really get annoyed with having his arms in? I agree no point in swaddling if they are out. I would recommend the swaddle me with velcro. I liked them and never had to redo them.

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
Michael would literally FIGHT me to swaddle him...he would cry for a minute afterwards and then immediately fall asleep...and then sleep 4-5 hour stretches right from the beginning. I honestly don't see a point in swaddling if you're not going to swaddle the arms. The whole point is to prevent them from throwing their arms in the air, which is what startles them and wakes them up to begin with. I know it kills you to see him cry but just give it a try, swaddle him with his arms in, let him cry a little bit, and then he should stop shortly.

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
We swaddled DD since day 1. She used to get her arms up with the Swaddle Me, and it would totally defeat the purpose of the swaddle. Now, we have her in a Miracle Blanket, there's no way she's getting out of that one, and she is SOOO calm. You can see her relax within a minute of being swaddled. Keeping the arms in is key.

I feel bad swaddling him with his arms in since he is so comfy with them out. Since day 1 he always has them by his face.

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
Our little guy likes to be swaddled - arms out most of the time. If they're in his little hands need to be by his face so he can self soothe. He ends up with little fists by his cheeks.

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
Diana I would try swaddling him with his arms in. I "thought" Madelyn prefered her arms out as well and she had a really hard time setting down. I think she was about 6 weeks old before I started putting her arms in. She "resisted" at first but after a night or 2 she would literally smile and her eyes would roll back as soon as I'd wrap her.
Eliza got swaddled from day 1. She also appeared to resist, but after a day or 2 the grunting and "struggling" stopped and she loved it as well.

Diana...Ian is the same way. He loves having his hands by his face at all times. I do swaddle the rest of his body tho even if it doesnt make sense. I think he likes the tightness of the blanket around the rest of his body.

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
Nope - she was breaking out of her swaddle and wiggling out of her hat in the hospital
Beyond that, she had a LOT of trouble staying awake through feedings and we had to basically undress her every time she ate to keep her awake. It would have been a huge PITA to unwrap her every time.
We ultimately put her in long sleeved onesies and fleece sleep sacks so that we could just unzip them and stick her feet out to keep her cool and awake

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
DS is 3.5 months and we still swaddle him at night...he almost always goes right to sleep with the swaddle. ETA: I never used a miracle blanket or swaddle me, always just a recieving blanket.

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
I fully swaddled for awhile but she hated it passionately and would fuss and cry getting her arms out of it. She also scared me to death as she’d pull the blanket up over her face getting her arms out.
So we swaddled with arms out. Did that for a long while. I think it was worth it because it gave the pressure of a ‘hug’ with the swaddle. She felt held and that made it better for her than a sleep sack would in my opinion.
I have never even owned a sleep sack.
She would still jerk her arms when she was little so we’d hold her hands (which usually meant we held her arm from the elbow up) until she fell asleep. We co-slept though with a snuggle nest in our bed so *shrug*.

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
DD has been swaddled since day 1...we use the miracle blanket, and at a little over 3 months she is breaking free and waking herself up for the last 2 nights.
with my DS he was swaddled until 3 months.

ITA. DS was the same way. He preferred to have his arms out but that's exactly why he would wake up (because he'd swat himself in the face). He'd fight me but ultimately slept better with arms in.

DS was born on Sat and by Wed he hated to be swaddled - same thing he wanted his arms out. We've been using the sleep sacks ever since.

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
Ayla was the only baby that needed/wanted to be swaddled. She was swaddled for a few months. The 2 after her didn't want their arms confined so we went straight to the sleep sack.
Now that you have 2 you will really see how different they can be...

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
Mason was the same had to have his arms out by his face. I would get the swaddler and let his hands be free.
I think they like to feel secure at least around their chest and waist. That worked for Mason. good luck!!!

Re: Did you swaddle your newborn with poll
We swaddled DS with arms in for the first 4 months. Now he is 4 1/2 months old and we swaddle him with arms out. This way he can move more. We tried getting rid of the swaddle completely at 4 months and that didn't work so we went to swaddling with arms out instead.
