Re: Is it true there is no longer a nursery at Winthrop?
The bottom line is - YOU are the patient and YOU are the mother. It doesn't matter what the nurses say... you make the decisions for you and your baby. It's their job to care for the two of you, so I wouldn't stress yourself over it. Having a baby is stressful enough!

Is it true there is no longer a nursery at Winthrop?
What chaps my A is that they still charge the insurance companies as if the babies are in the Nursery!
My Ob told me to not let them push me around, if I need a rest then demand the nursery. I'm delivering at SB I know they have adopted the same philosophy but I'm not sure how strict they are with enforcing rooming in 24/7.

Is it true there is no longer a nursery at Winthrop?
I just left there on Monday. I fed my baby and wheeled her into the nursery after every feeding during the night. This is my third and I wanted to rest. They had no problem with it. Other babies were there as well. I also brought her there during the day so I can eat and shower....
I had a very good experience...

When I delivered there last March, they didn't even mention the nursery the first night so I kept her with me. Big mistake. I got about 2 hours of sleep between trying to feed her, change her, rock her bc she was crying, plus vital checks every few hours. The next night, I had a different nurse and she saw how exhausted I was and I had asked for a pain med stronger than motrin so she asked if I wanted the baby to go into the nursery and I said yes please!

Is it true there is no longer a nursery at Winthrop?
There is a hospital people have been talking about that's room-in only... I can't remember if it's Good Sam or St. Catherine's I think what disturbs me most is that they think they can just ignore cultural norms and practices. One size does not fit all, especially in this area, which is so diverse...

i delivered there - c section in feb 2013 (and will again this summer). They never questioned my decision to FF and happily took Ds to nursery every night for me.
Same here and I delivered in October of 2012. However if they didn't they def would have heard my mouth. You are the mother and you make the decisions. Don't let them make them for you.
This x 1000. You have to learn very quickly as a parent to not let anyone push you around or question YOUR decisions about YOUR child. Be a b!Tch like me if you have to. Trust me, it works. They took my baby every night and never once said ONE word to me about not even attempting to BF. And that's a good thing too...because it wouldn't have been pretty otherwise. I would have raised hell.

I feel like a lot has changed in the past 2 years so people who are commenting from 2013, might not feel the effects of the pressure they are putting on moms now. I gave birth 2 years ago also and im nervous for how much has changed now
I have to respectfully disagree. Only because these exact same rumors were floating around when I had my son in 2008.
The thing is, you have every right to ask for your newborn to be brought to the nursery, for any reason. They would have a huge lawsuit on their hands if you told a nurse you were too sore, too tired or just not feeling up to watching the baby and they said you had to keep it with you. God forbid something happened to the baby. I don't think any hospital would want to deal with that.
Bottom line: Don't let the nurses bully you.
