Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
Besides getting a private room, is there anything the insurance doesn't pay that I would expect a bill after the baby's born?

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
It really depends upon your particular insurance. Anesthesiologists are generally OON and can be a big expense. It also depends upon what kind of birth you have and if the baby needs to go to the NICU.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
My baby was in the NICU for a week and I delivered with an epidural and had 100% coverage (didn't owe a dime!), but it totally depends on your insurance.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
I had a $250 copay and had to pay 10% of the bill, insurance covered 90% of in-hospital expenses.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
It def depends on your insurance. I was induced (so in the hospital the night before I delivered), had a v-delivery with an epi and a private room and insurance covered 100%. I didn't have to pay anything OOP.
However, I believe most insurances have a copay or coinsurance that you may be responsible for.

I also have GHI and Empire BCBS and I paid a $300 copay after we were home from the hospital. My DD was in the NICU for 8 days and I also had an epidural.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
I think my co-pay was $500.00. I received a bill. I called the insurance company when I was newly pregnant to find out exactly what they paid for, also what they paid for with the baby.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
It definitely depends on your insurance. My insurance covers 100%, even if the anesthesiologist winds up being OON.
My brother's insurance only covered 90% so they wound up getting a bill after they got home.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
that depends..do you have an HMO or PPO plan?
I have a 90/50 PPO so 90% is paid in network. I have a deductible of $200 per person which i've already met; + an out of pocket maximum for the year..i forget..maybe $1500
Most of the sonograms i've gone for i wind up getting a bill from the hospital for anywhere from $45-$75..which i guess is the 10% difference. once i meet the out of pocket max for the year i dont owe anything. So im sure im going to owe something towards the delivery but not too much b/c i've already been paying towards my out of pocket max.
does this make sense?
If you're in an HMO plan you'll probably not owe anything as long as they're in your network.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
Depends on your insurance and your deductible. I had no dedcutible and only a $100 co-pay and that was it.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
750 deductible, then 20% after that.
the ped that checked baby out was OON, so that was a nice chunk as well.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
I just got a couple of bills for copays from the doctors who did my c-section and saw me in the hospital. I would guess it would depend on your insurance though. Maybe call your ins company and ask what you should expect based on your plan.

Ours was a copay and an absurd anesthesiologist bill.

Re: Is there out of pocket cost at the hospital?
it does depend on your insurance. We have a $300 co-pay for myself & baby as long as we leave the hospital together. If the baby needs to remain behind, then there is an additional $300 co-pay when he is released.
Since our hospital only offers private rooms, it is covered entirely.
