IVF retrieval day question
I have my retrieval on Wednesday which is also my birthday. I'm supposed to have dinner with my dad that night but he doesn't know I've been doing all of this. Can you please share how you felt after the retrieval. I'm hoping that by dinner I'm fine and won't have to worry about him not knowing about the IVF. Thanks!

IVF retrieval day question
After the ER, I was pretty tired and sore. Tired not just from the anesthesia but from the 10 days of waking up early to go to my RE before work. We got home from the ER around 1 and I napped for a few hours. We ordered in that night. If I had to go out, I could have but I would have been a little sleepy. I understand your desire for privacy and not wanting to tell but I would not drive that night and there are legal restrictions on driving after anesthesia. If your father is picking you up or if your walking a short distance, I think you should be fine. If this is going to be a big fancy dinner, I'd reschedule so you can enjoy it more.

I agree with you 100%. Going to the diner to finally eat was as much as I could handle. And then I definitely slept.
Note.... I think I had 12 eggs retrieved. If you had more like 30 I could imagine really being sore. Just something to keep in mind depending on your situation.
Happy day!

IVF retrieval day question
I was out of it for most of the day and remember being really glad we had nothing going on. I think we ordered in that night too or just had leftovers. I would try to change the plans if possible, I'm sorry! But good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IVF retrieval day question
Honestly after both of my retrievals, I was in no shape to go out to dinner that night.. Your body just feels bloated and I remember not even being that hungry.

Re: IVF retrieval day question
Retrieval # 1, #2- felt fine and actually did meet up with friends for dinner (but only got 5 each time)
# 3 - was in a lot of pain after , they attempted an abdominal retrieval , I know I was out for a while and I'm pretty sure they had complications they didn't tell me about (got 5)
New dr
#4 -no pain at all , pretty much went about my day (only got 3)
#- no pain at all, went about my day and even picked up a couple of things at BJs that evening by myself (got 9!)

Re: IVF retrieval day question
i was really tired from the anesthesia. I guess it would depend on what time you go in and how many hours is between dinner.

Same here. Plus I was bloated - uncomfortably so. Wasn't myself for 2-3 days.

Re: IVF retrieval day question
So I'm guessing I'm not going out to dinner and now I have to figure out a way to put my father off. When I first mentioned trying for number two he was not happy so I haven't said anything since then. Figured either I would be telling him he was going to be a grandpa again with a sono picture and who could be mad at that or we wouldn't need to have the conversation again because I was unsuccessful in my tries. Four failed IUIs later and on my last attempt with IVF and he's been none the wiser...would like to keep it that way since I don't need the added stress of dealing with it. Well I guess I'm just not feeling good Wednesday night and rescheduling for Thursday and hope that works. Thank you so much for your responses.

I would've been fine for dinner after retrieval. Sore, but fine.

I think saying you're not feeling well and rescheduling for the next night would be best.

Re: IVF retrieval day question
I had 3 retrievals and after each all I wanted to do was lay in bed and take it easy I personally don't think it's the best idea to have any added pressure of something to do that night

IVF retrieval day question
Had my retrieval at 8:30 this morning and I'm feeling good. Actually had a bacon and egg sandwich and coffee when I got home and it was fine. Happy Birthday to me lol! They got 8 eggs so maybe because I didn't over stim and there weren't a ton, it was easier for me. Think I'll be fine for bday dinner tonight with my parents and son. I won't be driving so it should be fine. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
