Jarred Tomato Sauce
I usually make my own sauce but often my very picky DS will ask for pasta with sauce and I don't have any sauce on hand. What is the best jarred sauce I can use as a short cut? TIA

Jarred Tomato Sauce
I've used Vincent's jarred sauce on occasion and it's not bad.
I love Victoria's Vodka Sauce so I'm sure they're tomato sauce is good too.

I like Barilla and Newman's Own, too. Barilla's roasted garlic is great.

Jarred Tomato Sauce
My favorite is Classico traditional. It's not chunky which I like and not overly sweet.

I forgot to mention it CAN'T be chuncky. If DS see's chuncks it's over he likes it to be as liquid as possible. I will definitly give this a try, thanks!

I actually did try Barilla and he hated the garlic taste. How is Newman's Own is it like Barilla?

I don't like chunky either so if I get a jarred sauce and its chunky I will throw it in the blender to smooth it out.

Rao's and Victoria
Victoria is to die for. Love their Marinara. Not chunky, just perfect. It's expensive but you can usually find it on sale. I am Italian and to be honest, I prefer the Victoria to some of my family member's sauces! It really is the best.
Not garlicky, not chunky (you will occasionally get a tomato chunk, but not much of them), not too sweet but not spicy. It's perfect. I swear you will love it!

Re: Jarred Tomato Sauce
Another vote for Victoria's. I used to make my own sauce, but it's really not worth the trouble, theirs is so good. Best part - nothing funky on the ingredients list:
Imported Italian Tomatoes Pure Italian Olive Oil Fresh Basil Fresh Onions Fresh Garlic Sea Salt Spices
(This is the list from the Tomato Basil sauce, which I also like in addition to the marinara. There is a chianit sauce too that is yummy!)
No Acorbic acid or other preservatives, chemicals. It's always on sale for about $4.99.

Ok now I am intrigued by this! Would Stop & Shop carry this?

Yes they do!
The Chianti Wine Marinara Sauce is my favorite. To be honest...I could just eat it right out of the jar! (Ok, I do!)

Re: Jarred Tomato Sauce
They must have changed the recipe for Rao's because it was not good the last time I had it. Like you I usually make my own sauce but do want something on hand when I don't have time. Will try Victoria.

Yes, STop and Shop often has them on sale, like 3 for something (forget what it is at this point).
But I just was desperate tonight and paid $7.49 for one jar at King Kullen tonight. We have tried cheaper sauces and we HATE them all. So it's worth the money to us and I pick up a bunch when on sale.
Their Fra Diavolo sauce is good too.

Re: Jarred Tomato Sauce
I agree with Rao's and Victoria. Vincent's is good too. I find it to be a bit sweeter than the other two. It doesn't have tomato seeds in the sauce that Victoria does. It's a smooth sauce.

Re: Jarred Tomato Sauce
I make my own sauce 90 percent of the time. I am not italian, but learned from DH's italian grandmother. I hated nearly all jarred sauces until I came across Victoria's. It is very good and I use it in a pinch. DH said his grandmother approved of that sauce as well (though no one in his family can verify this lol). Vincent ' s isn't bad but too sweet for me. We didn't like Rao's. Definitely go with Victoria's. The vodka sauce was too bland for my taste, but improved with a pinch of sugar.

Victoria's is the only jarred sauce I will use. I love their Marinara. I use it for everything - pizza, chicken parm, dipping, etc. It's sooo good!
