Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

...by putting a size 20 model in his show.

Thoughts?

I love JPG. Although I think his approach is extreme, I think he makes a good point for designers.

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

shes certainly a beautiful girl

but that outfit on her is horrible

i agree that regular sized women should be in the shows- specifically to show how new lines of clothing look on the typical consumer

so i applaud him! i justthink that outfit on her is ridiculous and ill fitting

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

I think it's sad that it's taken such media attention for it to happen. Where's he been for the last decade or two? Or for that matter where are the other designers?? Why is he the only one doing this?

On the flip side, I do think it's a good thing that at least he did it. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that it's not just a fad or trend and that resonably sized models will stay on the runway forever.

There's my .02

I agree, the approach is extreme...and from the looks of the photo, she seems to be the only one. To top it off, the only one in lingerie...so I wonder how the MODEL feels about being a statement.

i'm sorry, but PUHLLLEASSE. This is obviously the trendy thing to do and JPG makes me sick for not even doing it tastefully, but just trying to jump on the bandwagon...Chat Icon

I am not too certain how she would feel. On the one hand she is being used to make a statement, but on the other, it is empowering for "life-sized" people to be portrayed in a fashion situation.

IF I were her, I'd feel not so great that I was being used in such a way, but for her, maybe she sees it as a good thing?Chat Icon

She certainly appears to be rocking the look...I hope she was comfortable and didn't feel exploited.

I agree also that JPG is making a statement not jumping on any bandwagon. I'm just curious as to what his statement is... Chat Icon

I think that pics is exactly why people have biased opinions about people being overweight. That does not look good...c'mon...that looks horrible. The point being made is what???

I hope so too. She is certainly rocking it. Love the makeup job they did on her too!
I think he is making a big F U to the people who are trying to regulate runway & print models. JMHO.
Designers see this as art & I think that alot of them are insulted by the fact that people think it is OK to have a regulation & that it editorializes their "vision."

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

I think he should have used an average sized woman. The average american woman is a size 12. Use that. Not an obessly overweight woman. That's just pushing it. She is not the norm either.

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

While i think its good that he did that, shouldn't he try to find an outfit that would show how his clothes could look good on a larger sized woman? Because this IMO does NOT

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

I think it is kind of lame. If he wanted to really make a true change he would have incorporated a bunch of average andor plus size models - not just stick one in amongst the rest of the extremely thin 'standard' models

I found that interesting too! Right behind her is a size 4. Honestly, its not her weight to me as much as it is how her weight is presented. She really looks sloppy to me and I dont like her hair or her makeup.

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

I think they should use average and plus sized models, but give the woman some dignity! She looks terrible in that outfit and you can see she's an attractive woman. I'm not saying she needs to be completely covered up in clothing, but they could show off her assets rather than her flaws, IMHO, of course Chat Icon

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

The entire point IMO is the extreme LOOK...like THIS IS a Size 20 in all her glory and that includes the flabby legs....
