I agree that a few of the responses where a little F-ed up. I think though, that with the focus so strongly on what HE was doing and not what SHE looked like, the kinda go sweeped under the rug sort of

Uhoh Toto...I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.
I'd say this topic is straying a bit.
Seriously
I applaud this girl. She is walking down the runway strutting her sh*t. I would rather be an overweight runway model with a pretty face, than an ugly skinny person.
KIDDING!
Actually, I would too...and not kidding. You can always lose weight, if you want to/have the ability. There ain't much you can do about an ugly face. No matter how skinny you are...ugly is ugly.
you're just biased b/c you are beautiful!
AND BIG!
But seriously, I'm not nearly as beautiful as you!

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models
I have been a size 20 and a 22 and a 24. I am 5 ft 8 so I was taller than the average person and hit much of my weight rather well. Nobody ever really guessed my size or my weight accurately.
That being said, most plus size (and typical sized) models (and I do know a few) do have a height requirement and that is regardless of what type of clothing they are modeling (with the exception of petite models). A size 12 photographs as a size 16. A size 16 photographs as a size 20. The model in that picture photographs, IMO, as a 22 or maybe a 24.
The internet is a wonderful tool. In my plus-size days, I used it to help me find trendy clothing so I could feel and look like my thin counterparts, but when I got those clothes on my body, I felt foolish and did not feel I looked attractive. Ironically, since I am no longer a plus size, I dress much more conservatively and I feel much better about myself.

Then call out the people and be done with it. If you can't name names, why bother mentioning anything at all?
The thread was started b/c I was curious as to what people thought of JPG's response to the idea of banning size 0 models. It wasn't started to talk about what the model looks like...if there are some immature people on the board - call them out on it, don't turn the thread into your own personal soap box about hypocrisy.
You didn't even realize what the post was about - you just came on to pick a fight.

Posted by MsMBV I think this thread is talking about the designer the designer and what he was trying to say here & not making character judgments about the model.
I think if she agreed to it then she knew what it was about.
This is also a spinoff on another thread about the modeling industry POLICING the runways & setting specific standards to which models must fit before being allowed to walk the catwalk.
Sorry but to me it is not the same thing.
The problem with policing models, to me, is that some big "Dad" of the fashion industry will tell all the designers who they can & cannot have wearing their fashion. It just does not seem right.
Again, I have to agree with you. The thread is talking about the designer more than the model.
i agree that the thread in and of itself is about the designer and the point he is trying to make....
MY point is that some of the comments/reactions on here were just as 'rude' or 'uncalled' for as the poster who got blasted for giving her opinion on an overweight person - i believe 'insensitive' was mentioned...
the and the "tasteless" description specifically. again JMO
Well being 1 of only 3 people who used this guy - I want to make sure its use is understood.
Pls read the poster I quoted, I was agreeing with her take on why this model was used on JPG's runaway.
I feel that he is trying to make the point that using this model is negative, which I DO NOT agree with... so my little guy = disgust at the designer Jean Paul Gaultier if that is what he set out to do.
hope this makes sense.

Yeah, I don't think YOU READ THE THREAD either. The person who made the comment about the flabby legs was AGAIN referring to the designer and what he was doing and NOT the model.

excuse me, i don't know what bug crawled up your azz and died, but i did NOT look to pick a fight! i was simply giving MY OPINION on some of the comments that were being made! YOU were the one who started with the and unnecessary 'why even bother?' remark! you have YOUR OPINION - I have MINE. I can express myself just as you and everyone else can. it's a simple as that. and i totally 'realized' what the post was about - because I READ IT - and honestly, didn't have an opinion on it until i read some of the remarks, so I decided to respond. you call it picking a fight? well, that's what you're trying to make it into.

I read the thread and I knew what it was about I have no opinion on it... since i could give a hoot about fashin models and JPG but... when the comments started flying about her weight I got a little offended...
Im allowed and Im allowed to say it!!!

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models
I realize, that I too, did not respond about the designer. So here it goes:
I think JPG went for shock value. As I stated in my own previous post, I have been that size. While designers make clothing in that size and MUCH bigger, it is far from mainstream. People in the BBW (Big Beautiful Woman) community, either the women themselves, or the men who appreciate their beauty, may love the look of that type of clothing.
But based on my own experiences in the larger than size 14 plus sized world, I have learned (and quite painfully), that your average Joe does not. Those fashion shows are not gearing themselves towards the plus sized community. They are geared towards the average sized community. When Lane Bryant has a fashion show, ALL of the models are plus-sized and the audience expects to see those models in plus-sized clothes. There arent any surprises.
If JPG really wanted to make a statement, he would have devoted an entire line of clothing to women over size 20. He didnt.

I think he should have used an average sized woman. The average american woman is a size 12. Use that. Not an obessly overweight woman. That's just pushing it. She is not the norm either.
But you know what... There are people who are a size 20 As a "obessly overweight person" a size 12 DOES nothing for me!!!! and PISSES ME OFF WHEN THEY CALL GIRL'S WHO ARE SIZE 12 AND MODELS "PLUS SIZE" THEY ARENT!!!!!!!
They are in the "fashion world". And I'm sorry, but the average woman IS a size 12. Just like it is out of the norm for a size 0 or a size 20. They are two extremes.

THIS IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TOPIC. It has nothing to do with JPG, the model he used in this fashion show or Europe's ban of models - all of which are relevant to this thread.

Agreed but it had to do with my mia tyler comment that I was told was not true. Yes I know these are not mia tyler. but why is it ok for them to use skinny models for plus size clothing and not ok to use heavy models for "skinny" clothing? Whats the difference?

True these women are stunning and they are obviously fit and slim, but unfortunately and sadly, not representative of the typical modeling world. I think they should be. Designers need to know that women of all shapes and sizes have money to spend on their clothing. Isnt that what they want?

Again, COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TOPIC. Why do they use "average looking" women and call them "plus size"?...because they're not figure size (they are larger than the figures designers use to make clothes). And the demographic that couture designers go for is rich and thin...or they aspire to be. There's a lot of fat phobia and discrimanation. It's the Fashion Biz, plain and simple. That's not the point of Coleen's thread though.
It's so easy to get carried away...
And Mia's official size is 12-16...as per her website.
