what i think is sh!tty is that a poster got BLASTED last week for giving her opinion on an overweight person she saw at a supermarket (buying ridiculously unhealthy food items)...yet noone says anything about some of the comments/reactions on this thread to this plus size models' pic.
THANK YOU!

I think this thread is talking about the designer the designer and what he was trying to say here & not making character judgments about the model.
I think if she agreed to it then she knew what it was about.
This is also a spinoff on another thread about the modeling industry POLICING the runways & setting specific standards to which models must fit before being allowed to walk the catwalk.
Sorry but to me it is not the same thing.
The problem with policing models, to me, is that some big "Dad" of the fashion industry will tell all the designers who they can & cannot have wearing their fashion. It just does not seem right.

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models
Well comments like showing off her flabby legs or or why couldn't he use a plus size model like mia tyler she is a size 12 BTW Plus sizes start at 14 NOT 12 is just saying why designers think models should be a size 0.
I don't mean to single out the posters that made the comments cause you know I love ya'll but... that hurts someone who really is plus size like myself!

i agree that the thread in and of itself is about the designer and the point he is trying to make....
MY point is that some of the comments/reactions on here were just as 'rude' or 'uncalled' for as the poster who got blasted for giving her opinion on an overweight person - i believe 'insensitive' was mentioned...
the and the "tasteless" description specifically. again JMO

Thoughts?

Just would like to point out, the woman in the supermarket could wear this girls underwear as a hat. She was MUCH larger than this model.

Ok and I was talking about her modeling days no
When she modeled for lane bryant she modeled at a size 12. They even had an article about her being a size 12. And how great it was that she was a size 12 and still modeled.
Im not saying what she is now... cause I haven't seen her model lately!
So I take back what I said about her "being a size 12" and I will say when she modeled plus size clothing that start at size 14 she was a size 12!

I do feel I am quoted out of context here, but in the interest that I may not have been clear....
there is NOTHING wrong with using a woman of her size on the runway. I think HE is doing his best to make HER look BAD for his own azzinine interests.
Mia Tyler is a well known and successful "plus size" model. if he were honestly trying to incorporate fuller figured women, I feel like someone of her popularity would have been the RIGHT way to set it off...
just so we are clear...she (the model) is lovely...HE IS AN AZZHOLE

I applaud this girl. She is walking down the runway strutting her sh*t. I would rather be an overweight runway model with a pretty face, than an ugly skinny person.

I agree with everything you said.
And Mia Tyler is well known...but not as well known as Sophie Dahl and Kate Dillon who have been accepted by the mainstream...Sophie's even been in Vogue and has been the muse of designers. So yes, JPG could have made his point "beautiful" if that's what he was trying to go after. But he wasn't, was he? He was going for shock...and "this is what you want"..."here it is"...and his approach is apprehensible IMO.

WHY? because it's a ridiculous double standard on these boards. one of MANY! some can get blasted and its okay....while others basically say the same thing, and noone peeps a word. hypocritical to say the least.

Actually, I would too...and not kidding. You can always lose weight, if you want to/have the ability. There ain't much you can do about an ugly face. No matter how skinny you are...ugly is ugly.

I can see your point if it was relative to this thread. People are referring to the designer - not the model.
