We got our BFP 8 months after we got married.
DH and I are 31 and 35, so we didn't want to wait long-we also thought it would take us 6-12 months to get PG, but lo and behold, it happened really fast!
ETA: We own 2 properties, living in a 2 bedroom condo. We would love to have gotten our house 1st, but trying to sell these properties the past year has been a nightmare in this market. So we probably won't get in a house for another year-luckily the place we live in now is very baby friendly

Well thats rude. Some people are planners and do things when they are ready and others don't plan at all. They just let life roll the dice. Each surprise is a blessing. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about the choices you make.

Roll your eyes all you want, but clearly I am not the only one who was taken aback by your statement.
Perhaps save the inside jokes for an FM - since the entire board can read if you POST IT, and the implications were obvious to others as well as myself.
It had nothing to do with them being smart because we bought a house first, and I even had a little wink next to my statement. I wanted to get pregnant way before we owned a house, but my dh is in the mortgage and real estate business and he was determined to have a house first. I wouldn't care if you questioned my comment at all, I can understand how it may have come off that way, but its just really unnecessary to get so nasty and rude

So who is the one getting nasty & rude?
I merely asked what that statement meant and ascertained that the assumption of it was that in order to be smart and have a baby, you have to own a house.
Others saw the same thing I did and felt the same way.
You're the one getting defensive because something you said sparked a reaction in others that you do not like.

We just celebrated 4 years together and I was 2 1/2 months pregnant. We were married in Sept 2006!
Every couple is different in when they decide when the right time is for them to start a family. No one should ever be judged on for their decision to wait or not, but that would be a perfect world.

we bought a house first too
you don't need a house, but it was important to us, we had a small apartment and I didn't want to bring my new baby home to a basement without any windows.....i'm glad we waited the house buying process is really hard and very very stressful!!!

Some of us not knowing that you guys took pre cana and have husbands in the same profession did find the statement rather harsh. The misunderstanding as to what you said has now become clear.

kristin i am surprised you got that comment! we got married the same year and if i get pregnant anytime soon (fingers crossed  ) i am afraid i will hear the exact opposite! that we should have waited longer
it's like anytime the topic of having children comes up people always seem to say "just wait, enjoy yourselves, you're so young" but it's almost 2 years of marriage (living together 6!) we owned our home for over a year - but still people are always saying wait wait wait (with the exception of our parents and sisters)...
i wouldn't let it get to you. i think there are a lot of rude people out there who get a kick out of putting a damper on other people's happiness. i don't know why it's so hard for some people to just say congratulations and leave it at that...

Thanks!! Yep!! We always heard wait and enjoy it. But then as we were approaching the 2 year mark some people actually had the nerve to ask what we were waiting for. Like you said I think it's just hard for people to just be happy! People always say "Wait" or "rush into it". There's no medium anymore.

we waited 5 years....in that time, we bought a house, sold a house...bought our current house; I changed careers and DH got his MBA....we were only ready in the past year...so even though it was awhile, it was worth it. I may even be the longest on here! we enjoyed our "freedom" and even though I'm sure people wondered, it was no one's biz but ours. though a friend of the family asked my MIL if we were having trouble or been trying all 5 years. Um....ok. The answer is no...we started trying last year, but I miscarried and here we are now. I just went back and saw some controversy about the house thing. I answered w/out reading anyone else's reply. All i mean by mention the house and schooling is that we did the things we felt meant something to us first, but the main thing was....we weren't ready at all. We got married at 27, didn't live together first, and really enjoyed ourselves.

I was married for exactly one year and 2 months. We were in the midst of buying our first home and wanted to wait till everything was set . We closed in November got pregs in March. We may have even waited longer but my dh and I are a litter older . Dh 38 and me 35.
