Lactation consultant question

I was thinking about making an appointment with a lactation consultant. I feel like I have no idea what to do when our little Chat Icon arrives and I really want to BF. Is this crazy? We took a breastfeeding class at Winthrop and it was helpful. But I think I would feel more comfortable being one on one with someone and learning how to use my pump...anyone else doing this?

Not crazy at all. I would call to tentatively schedule one for after your DC is born b/c that is when it will be most effective.

Re: Lactation consultant question

We live in SC. I called around and they all said to try the lactation nurse at the hospital and to try my very best to make it work.

I asked her if there was anything I could do before to prepare and she said these exact words: "Have an open mind, be patient, determined and know how badly you want this to work".

She said I sounded like I was thinking the worst...which was completely true.

She reassured me and said that she would be more than happy to help if I can't get it to work when the time comes but for right now....have the baby, try my best and work from there.

Good Luck! I think your determination will help you.

I got a pamphlet at a Medela workshop I went to this weekend. I actually found the information pretty useful. It's not like a step by step guide....just some helpful tips. I can scan it and email it to you, if you'd like (or anyone else). Just FM me your email address Chat Icon

Re: Lactation consultant question

When I had my hospital tour we were notified that we would have numerous lactation consultants on call to help assist. I don't know if I would do anything ahead of time. They are there for you after you deliver....
