Laid off
I was laid off today.
I knew there were going to be cut backs, business has been very bad. But it was a shocker to be called into the conference room.
I guess I now I have time to look for a new job!
I will get 1 week severance pay and be able to file for unemployment. Guess that's better than nothing.

In case you weren't aware, make sure you apply for unemployment now - not after the week severance. I've seen some people miss out on collecting because they confused & thought they had to apply after the severance.

Thanks! I am actually get paid for this week as well, should I still apply for this week or do it on Monday?
When I went online to apply, it asked if I had made more than $405 gross (which I will, tomorrow), to which I said yes and it said I had to wait til Mon.

Thank you all. I'm not sure what I am going to do. Obviously collect unemployment, but work-wise I'm not sure.
I have TONS of questions -
Can I goto school while collecting unemployment?
Can I get any type of assistance (NOT loans) towards school?
I'm not sure what type of work I want, b/c I was unhappy where I was. I want to find a job doing something I enjoy, but unsure how to find that.

Sorry this happened to you - I will be in the same boat come February. I also may change to a different industry and job, and have no idea where to start. Take advantage of networking and research as much as you can about anything that interests you. Good luck!
