not really any of our close friends or family had kids when Bella was born (I felt very isolated)...in fact some of them were just getting engaged when I got pregnant. I was fortunate to find this site and have made some amazing friends

I go to GTG from here, I've also joined a meetup group. You just have to jump in. I know its hard to be the new one, but I have found all the moms I have met through here especially to be so nice. And the fact of the matter is, you aren't really "new" because you know them through here.
Where do you live? I'm always up for meeting new people.

I know what you mean, none of my friends have kids and the ones that do unfortunately don't live close by. I'm a SAHM too and I would like to make some mommy friends too. I'm in East Rockaway.

I didn't really have any until I started working PT. I reached out to a few ladies on here that I never met but thought I would "like" them by their posts over the last few years, etc....You just have to get over being shy and put yourself out there!

I feel like I have NO mommy friends! I have just a few girlfriends that have kids. But they all don't work or live further away and I work. I am kind of shy too but the next GTG that we have on this Board I really want to make it!

We still need to meet up soon!
There was a thread a few weeks ago talking about doing a little GTG at the RVC rec center park so maybe we need to get something scheduled!

All my mommy friends I met from this website
ETA: We didn't know each other before...I went to a bunch of GTG's until I "clicked" with a few people who live pretty locally to me.

Re: making mommy friends...
I made them at Stroller Strides and we are still so close! I love them so dearly! It was nice at stroller strides b/c they kids were busy in the stroller and we had a chance to chat between exercises and after class. plus, we met up a few times each week b/c of the workout.

Re: making mommy friends...
I went to the public library events for kids...and saw there was a table for a mom's group set up...I've been to two stroller walks so far and am going to join. The girls are nice from what I know of them so far...I think you just gotta keep trying, and then let it happen naturally...if you get along, great...if not, move on and try something else
(I'm upstate btw)

Re: making mommy friends...
I feel the same way. We live in NJ and most of our friends live in NY. I was however in Buy Buy Baby today and got into a coversation with a few moms... one actually invited me to a mom's group out here on Thursdays. So, I'll have to check that out. And, baby stores during the day on a weekday might be just the place to meet other SAHM

Re: making mommy friends...
I work full time but I met some mom friends a few ways. One of the best was to join MOM'S Club for SAHM when I was home on Maternity leave. They are a nationwide organization- if you do a search online you can find a group by you. They do play dates, mom's night out, etc.

Just remember, everyone was new once too
This is so true! I have been taking DS to library classes for almost 7 months and only just started really chatting with a few of the moms about a month ago. I remember the first day that I actually was, another new mommy came and was like oh, I did not want to interupt you guys, seems like everyone knows each other! Little did she know, that was the first time I spoke to someone in 6 months of going!
I'm a slow friend maker. But sometimes you have to bite the bullet and go for it. A few weeks ago, I started a stroller club at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum on Fridays and so far we've had two gtg's (a few rain cancellations) and they have been great! Go to a gtg... LIF mommies won't bite! Well most of them anyway!
The more things you attend and groups you join (library, church, gymboree, etc.), little by little the gravitation will happen and friendships will be formed. I'm still in the gravitation stage myself!

Re: making mommy friends...
I'm pretty shy and have just started going to GTG with moms on here. I actually organized one at a park in my area last week. If you are free on Friday mornings (Oakdale) or Monday afternoons (Babylon) you should come to one of the meet ups. Everyone has been really nice and easy to talk to.
I've also gotten much better at striking up conversations at the park or at mommy and me classes. If I meet someone I click with and our babies are around the same age, I ask if the want to exchange numbers. I've met a few people this way.
Even if you are shy, I find it much easier to talk to people in these types of situations. You already know that you have kids in common and everyone loves talking about their child!

Re: making mommy friends...
I just joined the FB group.
I think it's even harder when you're working FT to make mommy friends, at least for me it is. I thought that if I were home I'd be able to do things like storytimes and gymboree type stuff where I could be with other mommies with kids near DD's age. I guess I am wrong, I always attributed my difficulty in finding mommy friends to my FT job.
I have friends with kids, but none local, and I also have a birth group but that's nationwide. I also tend to be a bit shy until I know people. But, I'm just jumping in now because well, it needs to be done, ya know?
I'm excited though, we have our first playdate Friday night.
