Re: making mommy friends...
I have freinds that are mommies, but they are too busy to pick up the phone or to get together with the little ones, so its a bit annoying....
I just get together with family that have kids or with my close girlfriends and we just hang out and play with the baby.
I'd love to get together at a meetup, but Im a little nervous too...
BTW... Im in Lindenhurst and DS is almost 1.

Classes, the library and the park. I live in a pretty small town so I would keep running into the same mommies that have DC the same/similr age as DS and we eventually exchanged numbers and started meeting on purpose instead of by accident
I will say though - it took some time...

Re: making mommy friends...
Only 1 of my friends had a baby. I hi-jacked her mommy friends. She basically organizes weekend playdates and activities and I tag along with her other mommy friends.
I don't really consider them friends but I recognize other moms in my neighborhood. Our kids go to music class together or see one another at the playground. We say hello and chit chat. Most of the other moms are working moms too.
I used to feel bummed that my friends didn't have kids. I just recently started hanging out with my single and non-mommy friends again. Many are currently TTC now so we still have a lot in common.

I feel the same, we do classes at the library, but it can be so isolating being a SAHM. I always try to go to the stroller groups but they seem to be either too early (we can't seem to get out of the house before 11) or too late (4pm is when we start winding down). I haven't lost hope yet!

Re: making mommy friends...
i am heading out to a playdate now.
13 moms in a backyard. you really have to put yourself out there and get on the radar.
meetup.com. go to meet ups on here. talk at the park. if you gel with someone, get their email address.
i meet people at bday parties a lot. my dh picks up moms for me
after 3 years of working the circuit i now will walk into a place and know random moms from either his classes, playgroups, library programs, the park, parties...
it is a network if you want it to be. i know other moms who have fallen victim to the curse of the cul de sac. they are content in their home, their yard, their block. others want to get out there and those are the ones you will keep running into.

totally unsolicted. at the end of the night, right before you go to bed...take 20 minutes. pack up your bag, make your lunch, everything by the door...if it can go in the car, put it in the car.
so much easier at night then in the AM to get ready.
