Male Family Members at Shower?
Wondering if any of you had male family members at your shower? Not a ton - just DH and both your dads, for example. I'm debating doing this (and also inviting my brother) since we will be coming up to NY and obviously don't get to see our dads and our brothers all the time.
Your thoughts?

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
Around cake time DH, our dad's and nephew (14 yr old) will come by and that's it! See my earlier vent post... They would be bored if they were there. Only reason they are coming by towards the end is b/c we need men to help us with the gifts and packing up the cars.

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
If you want them there invite them. It is your shower, your rules. I just know my dad and DH would be super bored. I know for my bridal shower the men ate & watched football, drank beer in the bar area. They had a blast. You could always do something like that, and then have them come in for cake etc..

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
If we lived up here still, I wouldn't think of it. I think just because we don't get to see them often. Maybe I'll just invite them all to come towards the end.

Did you see my post about having to move our shower date from Nov 15 to Nov 1 because the men in my family went NUTS over not being able to come! We are inviting: Dad's, Grandfather's, Uncles, Brothers, and God-Father. That's it. It was important that the men who wanted to come were able to, but really these are all that care enough to be with a group of women. The place we're having it has a seperate bar so we're adding camo balloons up there and my brother is making "gift bags" for the men that have corn, black face stuff, and carrots as a deer hunting joke. So I say invite them.

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
Since you are OOS I think I would invite them to join in the festivities because I am sure they miss you. Even if the reason for the event is ultra feminine, they prob just want to see you and are happy for yummy food.

That being said, my DH, Dad, BIL (he was 11), Uncle, and two cousins (basically all the males in my family) went to Dave and Busters during my shower. It was perfect

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
yup. we had a jack and jill shower so my dad and grandfather were there, as was my FIL and my DH's uncles.
it was nice - my dad loved being there, since DS is his first grandchild.

I think this is what we will be doing. DH is super excited and it would be nice to have him there along with our close male family members and his close buddies.
I've been to two baby showers this month where men were invited. Most people there were women, but the men there didn't feel out of place at all. The trick is to not make it all about really girly games i think.

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
We had a "Jack & Jill" shower for my 1sy DC. Since it was in August, it ended up being a BBQ/shower. We had lots of fun! I would recommend so that everyone is involved (especially DH!)

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
We have too many women already coming to my shower, so a Jack and Jill wasn't an option
But since we too are travelling to NY for my shower, I would be more than happy to have my DH and Dad there. On the other hand, I don't know if my DH and Dad WANT to be there
That many women in one room could be scary. Not to mention all of the "Oooohhh that is sooooo cute" over and over again. Plus it's a brunch, so their isn't any liquor to help them with the "pain". lol

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
Yep, I had a few of them at my shower. The place where we had it was a bar/restaurant, so the guys hung around the bar area until the food came out.

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
We are having shower in a small restaurant so whole rest. is ours. I might just see if they want to come towards end or sit off by themselves at a table by the kitchen Just thought it would be nice for DH to get to see all my friends and for dads to feel like they're a part of it since they don't see us.

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
I went to a co-ed shower a few months ago. It was probably 50 people, half were men. It wasn't a "traditional" shower meaning there were no games, no little favors, no opening gifts, etc. It was more of a family/friends BBQ with a preggo in attendance.
I do know there were men who did not come because they felt awkward and just their wives came.

My dad, hubby, BIL and cousin were all there, they just hung out in the other room. They were the muscle when it came time to carry big gifts.

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
At my baby shower my DH, Dad, FIL and brother were there at the way beginning as the guests arrived and then came back at the end to help gather the gifts and carry them to the car...that was it - they went to a restaurant themselves during the time of the actual shower.
But, I went to a friends' shower once where there was another back room attached to the main room and there were a bunch of men in her family (Her DH, Father, FIL, Uncles etc) that hung out back there - so they were part of it but not 100% and it was fine too!
There are no rules here - its your day - do what makes you happy and works for your family

Re: Male Family Members at Shower?
I did. It was at my parents house and a lot of my friends and family members brought their husbands. It was a lot of fun! We didn't do games or anything like that. I really wanted DH there - these were going to be his babies too!! He had a lot of fun and we opened gifts together.
