Malverne School District and town?
Does anyone who lives or works in Malverne school district have any insight into the neighborhood and SD? My sister's looking for a house and fell in love with something, but is unsure of things she's hearing about the area and high school. They won't be in the house long enough for their kids to go to the HS, but she's concerned about resale... the community seems lovely and the house is great. Anyone have insight?
Thanks!

i don't think the resale is too good for that school district. my coworker also works part time at a real estate office and she said one of the women she works with has been trying to sell her house which is in great condition in malverne for a long time now and nothing yet. the area/houses are really nice though and there is a cute downtown area.

Re: Malverne School District and town?
You're going to hear so many mixed reviews about Malverne sd on here. DH and I were looking in Malverne sd for awhile but ended up finding a house in Malverne in VS#13 sd. From what I've heard, many people in malverne sd send their kids to catholic school. However, there's a non-profit organization called projectenrollnow that was started by a group of parents who are trying to change the reputation of the s.d.
I wasn't fully against that sd b/c I went to Elmont and that had so many mixed reviews at the time and it had a bad reputation back then as well. However, I LOVED HS and think I received a great education.
I think the principles in the schools allow potential buyers in the area to come in and sit in on PTA meetings and things like that. That might be a place to start. Many people are going to say don't buy in Malverne, but the thing is.. houses ARE selling in that area, and many people in the community are young families.
Check out test scores, talk to people picking up their kids from school and talk to people who actually live in that town. That might give you a better idea.

Malverne Grades I went to Valley Stream South (sd 24 I think) and Malverne had a bad rep back them (1997). I also wouldn't send my kids to my old high school as it is now. We're picky when it comes to education though, and that's how we're basing our search. But, dh is a teacher so it really matters to him.

Re: Malverne School District and town?
When we bought in Lynbrook 5 yrs ago (we didnt buy in Malverne SD) that projectenrollnow was just underway. Has anything really been done with it? BC from what I hear, no. BUT I could be totally wrong. I am asking in all honesty.

Re: Malverne School District and town?
My DH and SIL are both graduates of Malverne HS and went through the entire system there. Neither had any issues. While it gets a bad rep because of the students that come from Lakeville DH said they never had drug issues more than pot and no violence. Unlike me who dealt with serious drug issues and bombs and more from a very high rated district.
They did have the budget fail one year they were there and were on austerity and since then the parents get out and vote for the budget because they do not want to lose the programs again.
