manual defrost or auto defrost?
we are looking to get a freezer - any thoughts on self defrost vs manual defrost? which is better? is the "shelf-life" of things really that much better in a manual defrost to make it worth having to defrost it?

Not in my opinion. I would never get a manual defrost freezer, nor a non-self cleaning oven.

Foods stored in manual defrost freezers are less likely to get freezer burn.

I have a manual defrost freezer and it is a pain. Prob 2-3 times a year I have to load all the food in coolers with ice and defrost the freezer. Granted it is an old freezer so a newer one may not be as bad but the next one we get will be frost free.
