Re: Matt Damon on Sarah Palin
Ok I HAVE TO GO THERE!!!!
Sarah Palin IS and elected official that has had executive experience and still is the commander of the Alaskan National Guard, which is the Bering sea away from Russia.
Obama.... although a Harvard grad he has admitted to using cocaine (so much for being a smart man) and his associations with radical leaders.... C'mon do we R E A L L Y want him to have the nuclear codes. In addition to this, he is a LEGISLATOR very very very different from being on the Executive side of the house.
He is great at one thing and one thing only that I have seen so far and that is raising money and campaigning for office!!!!
Fact- He has been a senator for 2 years and has spent the majority of that time campaigning to win the nomination for the democratic party and has yet to vote on anything other than being present!!!
Let's keep in mind that John McCain although he is 72 that is only one year older than Regan when he was elected and he lived about 20 more years!!! That is who is running for the presidency (A WAR HERO WITH A TRACK ABLE RECORD OF VOTING WITH AND AGAINST HIS OWN PARTY!!!)
NOW THAT LADIES IS PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL PALIN IS JUST THE "ICING ON THE CAKE"
Of course this is JMO!!!

Re: Matt Damon on Sarah Palin
I almost think that anyone who shares their political beliefs - celebrity or not - is either ridiculously brave or completely insane.
Matt Damon has the right to his opinion and the right to share that opinion. I don't want to see a political soliloquy if I paid to see one of his movies - but that's not what he's doing here.
I will NEVER reveal who my vote is for on here or anywhere else. My boss and my good friend - who are extremely pro-Obama - take my refusal to reveal my leanings as proof that I am a McCain supporter and have made it their mission to send me every anti McCain thing they can uncover. My cousins who are fundamentalists take my refusal to mean that I am voting for Obama and have begun to send me lots of literature on why Obama will be a bad choice for president.
Ironically - they'd both be more effective giving me the 'pros' of their candidate rather than the 'cons' of the opposing party.
Celebrities may not be political experts - but most people spreading their opinion on here are not experts either. But in my determination to make an informed choice - and I welcome listening to all opinions because you never know what you may glean from the people around you.

i think all celebrities should just shut the f*ck up about politics. i dont care what they think and i dont want to hear the craap that spews from their stupid mouths.
WOW. Just wow.
You really feel this way??
That's a whole LOT of HATE for a minute and a half long video clip. You really shouldn't sweat the small stuff there are much bigger and better fish out there to fry.
Not to mention Matt Damon went to HARVARD so I wouldn't really categorize him as "stupid".
It's one thing to disagree with what he has to say but to be so hateful about it...well, I just don't get the defensiveness.
Fine, you disagree with him. You've made it abundently clear, you're supporting the McCain/Palin ticket but that doesn't mean he's not entitled to have his opinion nor does it make him or his opinion stupid.
Well if Matt Damon is entitled to his opinion isn't she entitled to hers.
I heard a lot of hate from Matt Damon too

I didn't hear hate from Matt Damon, I heard fear. Fear of how backwards this country will go if an evangelical far right conservative gets into the highest or even second highest position in the country.
And I do think that porkchop can be angry, that is fine, but it crosses the line when you tell other citizens of our country that they should just "shut the eff up."

Talk about harsh...WoW! I don't think anyone should be surprised by his comments. Noone in Hollywood has ever supported a Republican. I try and find out who everyone in Hollywood is supporting and then I vote for the opposite!
HUH?????? Someone mentioned Kelsey Grammer and Stephen Baldwin as Republican supporters about 3 posts above yours. Sylvester Stallone has publicly endorsed McCain. Chuck Norris went to town for Huckabee. And I'm pretty sure if Charlton Heston hadn't died he'd be a pretty big Palin supporter! Not to mention that Arnold Schwarzenegger IS a Republican politician.

Re: Matt Damon on Sarah Palin
Again, if this were Kelsey Grammer or another "celebrity" speaking out in favor of McCain/Palin, we would not be having this thread spread onto a 3rd page.

I'll take a far right conservative, over a far left liberal anyday of the week. the reason why celebrity Republicans don't usually speak out in elections is because its considered occupational suicide if they do.

He's JOKING, right? Please tell me he's joking! He can't be serious! I'm cracking up!
Her experience as a mayor and a governor are not enough for VICE president...then I wonder what he has to say about Barack Obama, who has LESS experience and wants to be PRESIDENT!
He's so "scared" because of some rumors about dinosaurs 4000 years ago and crap about book banning (neither of which are true - people MADE THEM UP!). That's much scarier than knowing Barack Obama associates with racist, anti-american radical preachers, unrepentant domestic terrorists and a slum-lord political fixer!
ABSURD!
I agree. I like Matt Damon but Im actually embarrassed for him. He has no idea what he is talking about. He is just like all the others the are only voting for Obama because they think it is "cool"
Can you explain what you mean by your statement "He is just like all the others the are only voting for Obama because they think it is "cool"

Re: Matt Damon on Sarah Palin
I just had a chance to listen to it and in this instance, I tend to agree that he probably shouldn't have said what he did - or have gone on for as long as he did.
He mentions several times that he doesn't know anything about her, but then goes on to say how scary it would be if she were president. He just started to say something vaguely interesting when he got to banning books, but never finished. Other than that, I think he admits that he's uninformed, but then asserts a pretty strong opinion.

This is a bit offensive quote to make - that someone would vote for a candidate based on "how cool" they think they would be if they did...

This is what I mean, people take one thing and run with it and try to make it something its not, its sad. Lets not pretend that you dont know what "Others" means... It does NOT pertain to ALL Obama voters, it pertains to THOSE idiots who are voting for him eventhough they know nothing about politics but still think it is cool because everyone else is. Get it now????? Or is there something else you would like to rip apart and make more of it then it really is?

listen, I took YOUR comment and posted my opinion on it...you did not specify who you are talking about, just once again made a sweeping generalization. How am I making that more than it is? You are the one who said it

No one is taking one thing and running with it...you made a very broad accusation when you said "others" - I did not understand who exactly you meant when you said "others". I now know you mean the same "others" that are voting for Palin just because she's a woman

I agree with your point. I think anyone who is voting for either candidate based on sex or race is ill-informed.

While celebrities are entitled to their opinions he is speaking like he is some kind of political expert which he is not!
I totally disagree with this. He's not speaking as a political expert at ALL--he's voicing the concerns that MANY, MANY of us have in this election, no matter which side we are looking at.
The truth of the matter is, there are faults on both sides here. I happen to completely agree with Matt here--we need to know what she stands for. All I saw in her speech at the RNC was about 30 minutes of talking about her kids, her career as a "hockey mom" and then another 30 minutes of her desperately grasping at any attempt to make Obama look ridiculous. It was a desperate speech from a desperate candidate.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, he's right in that we DO need to know what she believes and what she stands for. I don't feel we got anything of substance from her speech, and THAT is a little scary to me.

This is really a moot point. Let's keep in mind that Bill Clinton openly admitted to smoking pot.
He's also the ONLY president in a LONG, LONG TIME to leave the federal reserve in the black!!!!!!!
So, I will take a HUMAN candidate who can bring our troops home from a pointless war and maybe get us out of our multi-trillion dollar deficit, thankyouverymuch.
