Well played McCain!!!!
on the contrary
i think this will be the nail in his political coffin
how so?
because a big part of his argument against Obama, is how he's inexperienced - and then he goes and chooses a vp candidate who less than two years ago was a small town mayor in Alaska just doesn't make sense...and there are many political analysts who think this was absolutely the wrong choice, and will be a detriment to his campaign
not to mention she opposes gay marriage and is anti-abortion
just seems he's heading downhill from here
jmo
first, she is the Governor of the state, not a mayor of a small city.
second, she is right in line with the conservative agenda and ideology.
third, her inexperience for VP is not the same comparison to Obama, who is running for president.

right now, he is using her to court the conservatives that think HE is too liberal, and the women who just want a WOMAN in the office...and don't care as much for policy.
agreed. i think he just needed to find someone that can appeal to different ends of the spectrum.
she will appeal to the true conservatives, and she will appeal to some women voters. she will also appeal to those that are concerned about the dependence on foreign oil issue.

whoa, whoa, whoa, I take extreme offense to that soccer mom comment!!
.
same here.
soccer moms are BRILLIANT people.
sacrafice, dedication, honesty
If she'd governor of Alaska, clearly she's not a typical "soccer mom"

yes, she is the Governor NOW, but just two years ago she was a small town mayor
i happen to disagree with most conservative agendas and ideologies - that's why i mentioned her stance on abortion and gay marriages (I am PRO CHOICE - i don't want the government to have a say in what I, AS A WOMAN, can or cannot do with my OWN body)
so you're admitting she's inexperienced for the role of VP. how does that make mccain look, when all along he's preaching about obama's inexperience?
just seems like he took two steps backwards to me

Kinda...
Obama was really great last night and he was swaying me. I really love Obama for wanting to establish an personal and governmental accountability in our country. I LOVED when he said that parents have to shut the TV off and schools need better teachers. What he said about "being your brother's keeper", helping others all resonated with me. It is time that we all take personal accountability in this country. It is time we stop becoming selfish.
Yet...
Sarah Palin, SHE had me at "hello". Any woman that chooses to have a child AFTER she find out the child has downs and CHOOSES NOT to abort that child...WOW. A woman who actually has a health care issue IN HER OWN HOME. I can SOOOOOO relate to her. I know other moms with Down's kids, autisic kids, myself who has a heart issue, and other families with heath issues that LIVE IT EVERY DAY just like Sarah Palin does. She has 5 kids and one is in Iraq. WOW. I have a TON of respect for her. Plus, he polices on energy I agree with too. Talk about someone who I FEEL will have my back on health care, energy and security and is NOT blowing a bunch of BS up my butt to get elected...
Plus, she has stood up to her own party many times in Alaska. A strong woman, who is a mom and a mom with a child who has a health issue, plus she is young and has a son in Iraq...AWESOME PICK McCain!!!!
Last night I was leaning toward Obama after his speech and Hillary's. Now b/c of this VP pick and other issues...I think I am voting for McCain.

Re: McCain's VP pick - it's official!!!
While I still consider myself an undecided voter, living in NYS my vote really won't matter since NYS will be voting Democrat regardless.
However, this is a brilliant pick by McCain.
Obama supporters are either fooling themselves, or are just denying the obvious, if they think this is not a smart pick by McCain.
First of all... the whole "Biden is going to eat Palin for lunch" idea is just inaccurate. It has been reported that Palin is definitely "no slouch" when it comes to debates. And worst case scenario if Biden goes on the complete offensive against Palin and slams her, it actually could come back to negatively affect Biden (even if his views are accurate). It could easily turn into the "Man attacking the Woman" arguement that could put Biden in a negative light.
Also the whole idea that McCain can no longer use the "Obama is not experienced" is also untrue. Palin may have a short resume, but so does Obama. And if given the choice would I rather have an unexperienced VICE president, or have an unexperienced president. I'd take the unexperienced Vice President.
At least this will be a historic election. We will either see the first african american president, or the first female vice president. Very exciting!

I'm an Obama girl, but even so, here's my problem with this Palin situation.... How is she going to give her all to this campaign with a four-month old at home who has Down's syndrome? I know if I were in her situation, I could not.

same can be said for Obama - criticizing Hillary and everyone else who voted for the war in Iraq and then chose Biden as a running mate - who voted for the war in Iraq
not saying one is any better than the other.

How many of us have to work and put our kids in day care? How is it different?
Also, she has a daughter who is a teenager who can babysit and her hubby I am sure will be there. Plus, if I were her, ALL of my kids including the 4 month old...on planes, in cars, on the campaign trail. What a way to actually SHOW working moms that you are LIVING what they live. That you KNOW what they are going through. IMHO, as long as her kids are with her or her DH I see no problem with it. I am sure her kids will have tutors as will Obama's kids. What a great way to show your kids our government in action. I praise Michelle Obama and Sarah Palin for bringing their kids on the campaign trail with them.

good point
another good point made by the poster above you - how will she handle running for vp, all the while caring for a child with special needs? NOT saying she can't do it, or it can't be done - just merely expressing what MANY will question and wonder - and unfortunately, will probably use against her, or as a reason NOT to vote rep.

I just see it from how I felt when I went back to work after my daughter was born... my heart wasn't in it for awhile. I can only imagine how that feeling would be even greater if the child was disabled. However, I'm sure if she felt it was a good choice for her, then I guess she made the best decision for her family.

I see where you are coming from ...BUT she was back to work three weeks after he was born as the governor and he is 4 or 5 months old now.

clearly she is very capable and accomplished or she would have never been voted Governor. she may not be a well known, but she's not a "nobody" either.

Palin is not going to seal the deal for me. I am that voter that hasn't made up her mind. This didn't help. This actually made me a feel a bit insulted. I don't relate to her at all.
She will get eaten alive in the VP debates.

Re: McCain's VP pick - it's official!!!
This could just be my baised opinion since I am really disgusted with McCain, ESPECIALLY because of his pandering to the right, but I feel this pick is manipulative and is 100% to get the women who wanted to see a woman in the White House to vote for him. It feels manipulative. I know I should be happy that a woman is running for VP, but I don't feel it's genuine. Then again, every VP choice is meant to win over SOME voting block or other.
I just have to hope that the women who supported HIllary Clinton will vote based on the issues and causes she support and vote for Barack Obama instead of voting (imo) against their own interests by voting for McCain.
