you're assuming women who were for Hillary and are still on the fence are so hung up on a woman in office that they would blindly vote for McCain/Palin?
I really don't get this statement, Palin is the polar opposite of HRC
I think there are people (not just women either) who will vote just bc they want to see a woman elected. sad but true. well that's certainly their right and quite possible, but it's my opinion that these said women are not the majority of women voters.
I doubt its a majority of women. but a small enough % to scare ya. speaking of which... I wonder how many African Americans are voting for Obama solely based on his race

Okay, I will admit something right now. I'm kind of suprised that this potential vp has only a bachelor's degree. I know it's only a piece of paper and that it's not a reflection of intelligence, but I guess I AM surprised.

even though this commentary is written by a former Reagan campaign manager, I think he makes excellent points for both sides! CNN link

Re: McCain's VP pick - it's official!!!
I think she is a real interesting pick for VP. I am a little concerned by her llack of experience, however, she has been the governor of Alaska for the last 2 years, which as one commentator on CNN said, gives her more executive experience than both Obama and Biden. She is big on ethics reform and has reduced government spending in her state. She has conducted major investigations on both Republicans and Democrats and vetoed the "bridge to nowhere". I am impressed by all that. The fact that she is a working mother really impresses me b/c no matter how much Obama says he can "relate" to working mothers, unless he has a sex change, he can't. She also has a high approval rate in Alaska, at times as high as 90%. The one thing I am a little shaky on about Palin is that there is some investigation about her firing her ex-brother-in-law, some sheriff in Alaska. I would like to know more about that.

ITA.
I can't believe that there are actually WOMEN on here saying that she should not be considered for a JOB because she has too many kids. If you totally disagree with her politics, fine- that's your perogative. But, to make that decision for her based solely on the fact that she has 5 kids just strengthens that glass ceiling. You're (obviously) all entitled to your opinions, but i'm kind of shocked. I'm also thankful that my employer doesn't subscribe to the same train of thought and didn't set limits on my reproductive activity before making the decision for me of whether or not i could balance work and family.

Putting a female on the ticket assuming I'm voting solely based on gender is an insult. I'm voting on the issues that matter to me.

I agree, I think it was a bad move and MAY hurt him in the long run

I agree.
I don't think she's qualified to be VP. She governs a state of less than 700,000 people. It's a huge accomplishment to be governor, but she hasn't done it that long. McCain loves to knock Obama's inexperience, but he chose someone with little experience. He's pandering to women, IMO. Obama's choice, too, was political, but Joe Biden does fill a big gap for Obama because of his policy experience.
Everything's political. It's just the way it is. As much as I detest "politicians" you want someone who knows how the system functions.

AMEN!!!! How can you be pro-life for babies but, not adults? You either respect life or you don't
comparing apples and oranges
killing murderers and child rapists is very different then killing an innocent fetus who did NOTHING wrong
ITA. People who kill other people do not deserve to be kept alive in our society. Innocent babies deserve a chance at life. People who abuse their rights in this life to the extreme of murdering and raping others have used up their stay. They're two completely different things -- the world isnt black and white!

while some may see this as a great move, i particularly dont. yes, she is a woman who likes to shake things up but thats about it. she is a novice to politics and government and definitely a Washington outsider. with the way the "old boys' network" runs on Capital HIll, i cant see her accomplishing much. its one thing to unseat a governor but its entirely another to be a heartbeat away from being president. McCain is playing to the GOP base because she has a touch stance on abortion. shes going to need more than that.
i cant believe that women would be persuaded to vote for her based solely on her gender. quite frankly, thats insulting. she lacks the political chops that it takes to hack it in Washington. while i would love to see a woman in the oval office or even close to it, this is not the one. it didnt work with Geraldine Ferraro and it wont work here.
ITA!!! McCain talks about how unexperience Obama is, yet he chooses a VP is is less experienced than Obama

I live in a very diverse area with a larger African American/Hispanic population and in the 25 years I have lived here, I have never seen so many people campaigning for Obama! In addition, so many of my students are registered voters! In 14 years of teaching, I have never seen this!

Just playing devil's advocate because I found it quite hypocritical too. Murder is murder in the eyes of God. If we look at it biblicly, which pro-lifers often do, human beings do not have the right to terminate life, that's God's job. According to most judeo-christian religions it is not a human being's decision who should live and who should die and God is the only one who can "judge" you.
Personally, I am pro-choice (I do think there are situations where abortion is necessary, and I am not going to cram my beliefs down anyone's throat) and on the the fence re: capital punishment. I don't really think it's comparing apples and oranges. If we are going to follow the bible, we can not pick and choose what we want to follow. Just because we consider someone to be a bad person, does not, according to religious philosophy, make us in any further position to decide if someone should live or die.

Re: McCain's VP pick - it's official!!!
One thing that I was interested to read about her today was a statement from someone who knows her well in Alaska. He said she is extremely charismatic and wows people who do not even know what her policiies or position are on things. He then noted, "Gee, she's kind of like Obama that way." Maybe John McCain took this factor in consideration and realized he needed someone who could match that sheer crowd appeal. I don't think he quite does it himself.
Actually, I think both Obama and McCain picked VPs who are somewhat like their adversaries, at least in terms of personality. Certainly not in politics. Interesting.
I agree with many posters that her children should not stop her from taking this job. It's her choice, if she is willing to move forward, she should.
