I have it - I like it for the most part. I got it to treat super heavy periods, which it definitely helped. When I first got it placed, I bled/spotted for over 2 weeks, which was awful. Once it went away, it was so good. My period is pretty unpredictable now, may not get it for a month or so, but it is always light. I haven't had any side effects from it.

I agree with the other poster, you have it removed whenever you want, might help with heavy or painful periods, can cause yeast infections if you are prone to them. You should check the strings once a month to make sure it is in place

Re: Mirena IUD
I've had mine for a year. I love it. The first few months were rough with random apotting, but now, I get a tiny bit of spotting maybe once a month.

I'm glad someone else posted about this. I just had mine put in late last month to help ease my crazy heavy periods(don't have working tubes so not being used as birth control) that seemed to have gotten worse after each child. I had a period last week and been spotting ever since. Hope the spotting ends soon.

Even when it was in I couldn't feel the strings because she cut them SO short. I have a very tilted uterus and naturally short cervix so reachng to feel them was nearly impossible.

Re: Mirena IUD
I know this is an old post but I wanted to share my experience with it.
I had it put in in February of 2015 after having my second child that previous July. I was very thin when it was put in, well under my pre-pregnancy weight. The pounds started creeping up no matter what I did or didn't do or eat. No matter WHAT I did, I couldn't lose an ounce. I gained close to 30 pounds between February and August when I FINALLY put 2 and 2 together that it was the Mirena that was making me gain weight that was damn near impossible to take off. I also beld pretty much daily in those months that I had it in. Some days was just a tiny bit but it was pretty much like I had my period for 6 months straight. I saw my doctor several times and they claimed that some women take longer than others to get used to it. I would NEVER get this again and I always caution my friends to REALLY do their research when considering getting it.
I also had the Paraguard in between my 2 pregnancies and while it was great, my periods were completely beyond heavy. I can't win.
After I had the Mirena removed in August, I went on the pill, but that make me literally crazy after a few months and I stopped it in January. Now I'm not on anything and couldn't be happier.

I am just now putting 2 and 2 together as well. How has your weight been since having it removed? Is it easier to lose without the Mirena in? Going to my doc in the next couple of weeks and want it out - I have gained probably 30lbs since I got it last July!

Hi! The weight definitely isn't coming off as quickly as I would have liked - it will be a year in August and I've lost maybe 15 of the 30 I gained. I could seriously KICK myself for having it done in the first place.
