Moms of 2 year olds - a question regarding clothing, shoes, etc

I can only get one pair of sneakers at a time for Cailen, because he will ONLY wear whatever his current shoe is. He refuses to change his shoes - he will tantrum, pull them off, etc. I usually have one good pair of sneakers like Nike, and then a cheap pair fo Van's, but he refuses to wear them - only his Nikes....

He wore a different pair one time for my grandma's funeral, but that's because I think he saw that it was a specific occasion. And after he changed back into his sneakers.

i'm not complaining - I am in no position to really get him more than one pair of shoes per season anyway, but was wondering if anyone else has gone through this?

also, he only wants to wear his spiderman t-shirts - he would wear the same spiderman t-shirt everyday if he could. I have to convince him it's in the laundry (and sometimes I'm lying Chat Icon )

Do boys get THAT into what they are wearing? I thought this would be a girl thing, but he will inspect each non-spidey shirt I take out, and has to "agree" to wear it (even if it means me saying "this is what you are wearing - say ok or you are in big trouble" Chat Icon )

does this get better, or worse? Chat Icon

On a rare occasion, Jayden doesn't want to wear what I pick out, so I will just take two items and let him choose. As far as shoes, he usually wears what I ever shoe I tell him to get. They have a few pairs of sneakers/shoes that they go between depending on what they are wearing.

At 4, Nate is a little more vocal about what he wants to wear. If I don't want them to wear it or if it's not appropriate for the weather, I'll tell him that it's in the laundry. I usually don't fight him on the shoes that he wants to wear unless it's really bad. For the most part, he'll wear whatever I pick out.

Well, Christopher doesn't like being dirty, so if he says he wants a Cars t-shirt and I don't want him to wear it, I just tell him it is dirtyChat Icon

But really he doesn't care most of the time honestly.

As for shoes, he loves both his pairs of shoesChat Icon

DS does this. Over the summer he had a pair of sandals and a pair of keds. He refused to wear the keds and would only wear the sandals (and at the beginning of the summer I had to bribe him to wear those!)

Now he just got 4 pairs of shoes Chat Icon to last till April (hopefully). One of them is a nice black hand me down pair and he loves them and it's all he wants to wear. He's had screaming fits over it. I usually just push the sneakers on while he's crying and 2 min later he's over it and doesn't care which shoes he has on.

A bigger problem I have is getting him to take his shoes off. At night, he refuses to take them off.

95% of the time, DD could care less what she's wearing. I know it'll get worse as she gets older because we are already down 5% from when I called all the shots. I hardly ever ask her what she wants to wear so I think I've sort of delayed her clothing decision-making a little bit.

I think it's cute that Cailen cares so much about his shoes and spidey shirt. Chat Icon

Liza, let me tell you a story. I took Noah to get some new shoes because none of his shoes were fitting him anymore, not the sneakers we bought for him, not the second pair of crocs that he refused to wear, nothing fit him. So the lady tried to measure his feet and he threw a wobbly. Finally she measured him and he was not having a try on of any of the shoes in that shop...so we called it a day. So I thought I would buy him shoes and just give him the shoes...no way jose...I bigged them up, gave them to him and he THREW them across the floor. He wanted the SAME SHOES THAT HE HAD LAST TIME. SO I had to buy him the same shoes in a bigger size!! Chat Icon At the moment he will only wear what he calls "comfy trousers" he won't wear jeans or any pants he calls "hard" thank goodness his school uniform is jogging bottoms...

Anyway, my kid is the same, he wants to wear certain things all the time, so I usually give in, imo its not worth fighting over. Thank goodness he has to wear the uniform starting next week, at least he will be wearing the same things as his friends....Chat Icon
