Moms of DD's---talk to me about potty training...

what is the best way to do it?
I tried before bathtime when i bring her into the bathroom i will sit her on the potty but she doesn't seem to have much interest, she gets off and just wants in the tub...how do you know when they are ready and what's the best way to train them?

Re: Moms of DD's---talk to me about potty training...

When my DD turned 2 I had the seat in the bathroom for at least a month before. She knew what it was for, etc., but wasn't interested. She would sit on it sometimes, but nothing really. About a month after she turned two - it was June, so the weather was nice, I took off her diaper, put her on the seat & asked her if she had to go. All of a sudden she did and I made a huge deal out of it, giving her hugs & kisses. That was all it took. After that, she was so excited to go that she just kept doing it. I kept her in underwear during the day and for the first month I used pullups at night, but she kept waking up to tell me she had to go or waking up dry so I never used pull ups again. Now, she's almost 4 and has an occassional night time accident - usually when she drinks too much at night, but, for the most part, she wakes up during the night to go to the bathroom.

Re: Moms of DD's---talk to me about potty training...

DD started at daycare....one weekend i just asked her if she wanted to wear diapers or big girl undies...she said big girl undies and we went from there. she was 2.5 at the time.
she did have a few accidents but by the end of the weekend she was pretty much trained.
poop was a dif story that took awhile longer. i did the you get a special treat if you poop on the potty deal.
nighttime was even longer....i just tackled night time in Jan. shes got it down now though.
