Moms that polish their DD nails

do you use a "kid" nail polish or just your own? I bought one of those kid ones and it peels off in less than a day. I just don't want to use mine if it's not safe for her little body. She's 2.5

Re: Moms that polish their DD nails

Here's my view on it...Nail polish contains phthalates, something used to keep it from chipping.

It has been proven to cause cancer in lab animals as well as infertility in males when their Mothers used it while PG.

It is banned In Europe and other countries and hopefully like BPA the US will hurry the heck up and do the same.

So I will use nail polish on my little girls but only an organic or Phthalate free one.

ORLY is a name brand you can find everywhere that is safe.

But this is not a topic for debate, this is my opnion based on what I read, I know plenty of people who don't see things as I do and I think that's fine as well...it depends on your comfort level kwim?

I only use regular nail polish on her toes like Essie. But if I did polish her nails I would use a more natural one with less chemicals.

Re: Moms that polish their DD nails

I use regular polish on her hands and feet.
She's not that into eating her hands, and rarely eats her feet (even though she still can - talented little thing that she is), and I figure if I can wear it, so can she!
And she looks SO DARN CUTE with her painted nails! And it makes her happy Chat Icon

I don't think Kate was making it about bottles....she was just making a comparison.
I have heard a lot of doctors and speech related professionals say that bottles at 3 can be a hindrance to speech development, so what she's saying is true.
But it's all about opinions....

Re: Moms that polish their DD nails

My DD is 2.5 & I have been painting her toes for about 4 mths with my polish I even bought her a few of her own cause she wanted sparkles on her toes. I dont do her hands yet as she still eats with them sometimes. She gets her toes done every 2-3 wks.

Re: Moms that polish their DD nails

I've never painted DD's nails -- hands or feet.

I can't even get my own nails done, I don't need to throw her beauty maintenance into the mix at this age! Chat Icon

Re: Moms that polish their DD nails

I have painted my 2 year olds toes but not fingernails yet. I am not crazy about the chemicals in the polish to be on her fingers.

She doesn't eat her hands or nails but she sometimes still eats certain foods with her hands. It worries me about the chemicals going into her mouth.

Where do u get a healthier form of nail polish for kids????

I use my own on her. I also take her for a mani/pedi once in a while. She will be 8 in two weeks. Don't remember when I started...maybe around 5?

Re: Moms that polish their DD nails

I'm not painting DD's nails (fingers OR toes) until she lets me cut them without a fight.

No one needs a pedicure more than my DD, but you'd think I was trying to cut a toe off the way she fights me. Chat Icon
