moms who are organic nuts....or moms who aren't but can understand my nuttiness...a WWYD?
we were gifted some jarred baby food by my aunt. very kind of her. she had no idea that I 1) am making Luce's food and 2) plan on making everything he eats organic
I am a nut about food and nutrition. certifiable. I REALLY don't want to give him the food, but at the same time. it's FOOD. I can't waste it either.
plus I think I may be going off the deep end completely by caring THIS much.
but I do.
so, fellow food nuts, would you give your child beechnut baby food from the jar NON ORGANIC if you planned on feeding the baby organic for the rest of his/her natural born life?

Honestly, I dont think anything would happen to him. Ive given Abby both organic and non organic. But if it means a lot to you, "get rid" of one jar at a time - by stashing it and giving it to someone else who is not organic. Could you get away with that?

Sorry I'm no help
I made all of AJ's food and never gave her jarred. I tried once mabye twice but she and I really weren't into it.
I'd donate mine or if someone bought them I'd ask if I could have a receipt to change it out for formula, wipes, diapers, etc.
Sorry

Why don't you donate it? I usually give to my church's food pantry.

I am with you. And, it's your DS so you have every right to want to feed him whatever your little heart desires I am making all of DD food too & all organic. If I were given the same gift- I would try to return to BBB for a credit (just being honest) or see if my SIL wants it since she is not making her daughter's food.

Donate it to a food pantry... It won't go to waste and goes for a good cause.
I feed Alexa all homemade Organic food, that is my decision as a parent and I understand your nuttiness... the thought was nice of your aunt, no reason the food should go to waste!

I agree, donate it to a food pantry or to your local church, or a woman's shelter.

I agree with PPs about donating it. Or, if you have any "non-organic" mom friends, I would offer it to them.

Re: moms who are organic nuts....or moms who aren't but can understand my nuttiness...a WWYD?
It depends how much food it is... I only give Sasha organic food-- but when we are out, or at someone's house-- I will give her a little of whatever is there, and I know it;s not organic. Same thing I do with myself-- I eat organic at home and when I can control it, but I am not going to limit myself in terms of restaurants, etc. considering I am already a vegetarian.
If it's a couple of jars, and they don't expire for a while-- I would keep them around for emergencies. Although if there are any meat ones (I don't give Sasha meat), but I would not give her non organic meat if I did-- so I would def not use those.
If it's a lot-- give them away and keep some fruits for yourself. At 13 months-- we still give her pureed fruit when she is being a pain with eating other things.

Re: moms who are organic nuts....or moms who aren't but can understand my nuttiness...a WWYD?
you can certainly donate it if you don't feel comfortable using it. how are the expiration dates? can you exchange them for jarred organic? it may be good to have some on hand for a day when you have a long outing....just a thought.
that being said, in my experience, staying organic and all homemade didn't work out. it wasn't due to my effort or willingness, but DD is a picky eater. it's a matter of what she will eat and trying to get some quantity in her. she wasn't always that way!!! she eats pizza and I know the pizzeria doesn't use organic cheese or sauce or flour. at home, we only give her organic milk and, when she used to eat it, organic yogurt. I'm glad she takes those b/c I feel most strongly about organic dairy. but, at Sesame Place last year, we had to use the park's milk, which wasn't organic.

I wouldn't eat it myself and I wouldn't feed it to my son, who's metabolism, gut health, immune system, nervous system, etc. are not fully protected from the toxins of farming, harvesting, production and jarring . Is there any way you can add it to your registry and then return it for a portion of the sale price????

Id donate.
I made all of Sadie's food and she's never even tried jarred food. After a while it became a "thing" for me.. I wanted to see if I could get away with never buying a jar and I did!

Re: moms who are organic nuts....or moms who aren't but can understand my nuttiness...a WWYD?
I commend you on sticking to your guns.
However, I have a problem with the suggestions to return it to a store for $$ -- you don't know where it was bought, and you didn't pay for it. I think people who are so conscious of their decisions with their DCs should also consider what is morally correct.....and returning something that you didn't buy for $$ that isn't yours in not, I M O , the right thing to do.
I would give it to a friend or donate to a food pantry. The Mother's Center I belong to always has formula and baby food out for anyone to take if they need it. My mother works at a food pantry at her church and they always need jarred baby food.

I would donate it or give it to a mommy friend who is using non-organic food....and you are not crazy, I am making all of DS's organic baby food and wouldn't want to give him anything other than that.

I can pretty much totally agree all around with this. If it's just a few jars, keep it (and I did ONLY organic baby food and mostly organic food now still and DD is almost 3)...but otherwise, I'd donate it.

while I wouldnt care and would give it to DS, if it were that important to me, I definitely wouldnt and would donate it. Your aunt doesnt have to know and someones baby somewhere, gets food his parents couldnt otherwise afford. Sounds like a win win to me.

Re: moms who are organic nuts....or moms who aren't but can understand my nuttiness...a WWYD?
I made all of DD's food and only fed her organic until a certain point. It just wasn't feasible for us. She is a very picky eater and it got to the point that I was just happy she was eating something. If it was just a few jars I'd keep them on hand and use them. If it were a ton, I'd prob donate them.
