Moms with Nanny Experience - Hours/Pay?
I think I found a wonderful nanny and best part is she is though word of mouth which makes me so much more comfortable.
I have two questions:
Are the following hours reasonable: 7am-5pm., m-f. Or is 7:30 more realistic even though 7 is my preference?
Do you pay per hour, per day or per week? How should I present the pay to her? If you don't mind me asking, how much do you pay your nanny?

Re: Moms with Nanny Experience - Hours/Pay?
I dont have a nanny but to answer your question, I would present the hours you want and ask her if that is do able...ask her to be realistic as you will need to KNOW that your nanny will be there by 7:30 at the latest but you would prefer them to be there by 7 so you dont have to rush.
As far as pay I would present it as a weekly rate with X number of paid vacation/sick days given X amount of notice.
I cant give amount I know people who pay $15 hour, $400 per week-$500 per week. Depends on what the job entails (anything besides direct care for the kids? laundry, vacuuming etc), hours, number of kids etc

Re: Moms with Nanny Experience - Hours/Pay?
You can ask her to come whatever time you want and you agree upon the hours.
I based our nanny on an hourly rate but she gets the same thing everyweek. Somedays she might go home early and other days she may stay late. It all works out in the end.
I would be upfront regarding if you plan on paying her vacation days and when she can take, etc.
We pay her weekly at the end of her workweek.

I agree with the above but would add in from my friend's experience:
Holidays - what holidays she's expected to work & if she'll be paid.
Most people I know opt for a weekly salary. Anything outside of those hours, working late, you want to go to a movie, you should discuss an hourly option if she's able to do it.

Re: Moms with Nanny Experience - Hours/Pay?
Our nanny works 6:50ish - 4:30. We discussed the hours up front. There are some days I'm stuck at work/traffic, and she is there a bit longer then 4:30 - or if I have an appointment, she will stay longer, and there are plenty of days that she gets off earlier.....
I gave her the holidays that she would be off up front. We've also given her about 2 weeks of vacation/sick leave in which she is paid.
I pay her X for the week, and then i give her weekly gas/incidental money (she takes my older son to school every day). if she is off for the week, I do not give her the gas money.

Re: Moms with Nanny Experience - Hours/Pay?
We payed our nanny per week. On occasion when I had to stay late at work, or if my oldest got sick and had to stay home and she would take care of both him and my daughter, I would pay her extra for her extra effort. I also gave her 2 paid sick days per year and 1 paid week off per year. It wasn't much but that's all I could do.
As far as hours, I agree with the PP: tell her what your ideal hours would be and ask if its doable for her.

We discussed hours and how she would be paid when we interview. Just make sure the person you find is somewhat flexible just in case you run late or need her to come early occasionally. We pay her once a week.

Re: Moms with Nanny Experience - Hours/Pay?
we pay our nanny once a week. we pay her X amount even if we give her days off like over christmas. we will also pay her for any sick days if she needed them. some weeks she works 45 hours and others 35, but no matter what we pay her the same amount. i figure it all works out in the end.
ETA: her hours are 7:30 to 3 or 4 and on occassion 5.
we both get ready for work before she arrives.

Re: Moms with Nanny Experience - Hours/Pay?
I work p/t so i have a nanny come twice a week..7:45-5:00 and I pay her $100/day. If I need her an extra hour and it's pre-planned, it's $12.. if I'm late and it's unplanned <late train> I pay her $16/hr in 15 minute increments...
