More Cereal Questions

1- Its normal for a lot of it to come back OUT of his mouth right? Sometimes he "gets" it and it goes down, most of the time it piles back out? Does it mean he's not ready for it?

2- When can I introduce a new one? I "think" my Ped said after a week, but Im not sure. We are about 6 days on rice. Im in no rush to move on, but just wondering if I wanted to switch to oatmeal, should I wait a certain time?

And 3- When did you all move on to fruit or veggies( which ever you choose to do first?) Again, I'm in no rush but just wondering, once you started cereal, how long did you wait before moving on?

Thanks soooo much!

Re: More Cereal Questions

1 - Yes, it's normal! As long as some of it is going down - I think he's considered "ready".

2/3 - I did 1 week of rice, then did oatmeal for a week, then introduced fruits for a week each (apples, bananas, pears, peaches). We are about to start veggies tomorrow! Ped said orange then green.

Good luck!

Re: More Cereal Questions

Totally normal - they are used to using their tongues when they eat, hence the pushing out of food...

every ped suggests something different, and every one does their own thing when it comes to baby food. I wanted to start Cailen on veggies 1st because i was worried if he got used to the sweet stuff, he would like it more and not like the veggies! I waited 3 days between each new food...

I started with:

sweet potatoes (loved them)
Squash (also loved them)
Carrots (liked them, but I decided to hold off on root vegetables since Taweezah and I were talking that root vegetables can extract a lot of toxins from the soil...)
Sweet peas (hated them - he gagged and that was that)

then fruit:

Pears (got a rash)
Peaches (I think they were too tart - he made a yuck face)
Bananas - likes them

I even started him on 2nd foods already. He loved the combo of sweet potatoes and apple

Re: More Cereal Questions

yes it's normal for alot to come out...you could try making it a little thicker.

we only did oatmeal with DD...rice made her too gassy.

We did the 3-4 day rule of thumb before introducing new foods. Start with a veggie/veggies because once they taste the sweet fruit, it's tough to get them to eat veggies.

And I think it's recommended to start with the yellow/orange veggies first
