Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
Maybe I would feel differently If I didn't have a guest room so this situation has never come up. I am amazed at how many people would let older people sleep on an air mattress

I don't think so, but we have a guest room so no need for a discussion for me!

I dont have a guest room but I agree with you. I could never ever let an older person sleep on an air mattress. I give up my bed, DH & I are on the futon for the night and I wash the sheets the next day.

Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
I gave them a blow up mattress in the baby's room and let her sleep with us in her pack and play. They were here 2 weeks ago for 4 days and they didn't want to stay in the spare bedroom which has a pullout becuase DH works in there at 5 am and they would have had to get out. So that was the next resprt. By no means did I give them my room. We wanted them outta here anyway.

Hmmm...this is a tough one...we do have guest bedrooms...but, if not...I'd have to say I would not offer my MIL our bed to sleep on...

I'd offer our bed. FIL has back problems and I'd want him to be comfortable.

Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
When we lived in our old house we only had one bed, so when my Parents came from England for a MONTH we gave up our bed and slept on inflatable bed in the living room! I would have done the same for my IL's, I have to say if I had to I would do it again, we had quite a laugh all snuggled up watching TV

Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
I would offer it, but they would get a hotel room. My inlaws stay in 2 separate rooms...so we have to have 2 rooms ready for them. In the absence of a bed, my FIL would sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag. He likes to pretend he is camping!!!

Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
I would and actually did when DH's parents visited and stayed at our apartment a few years back. It was a last minute thing and we only had a pullout sofa. His dad has a bad back and we didn't want him to make it worse by sleeping on the pullout. Now, we have a guest bedroom with a bed - so I would just have them sleep there.

If we did not have a guest room I would offer them our bedroom the same way I would for my parents or my family.

Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
We have a guest bedroom in our house but eventually when we have kids it will be occuppied. They would be offered to sleep in our living room on the pull out couch or the air mattress. I am not offering my bed up to anyone to sleep in, inlaws or parents.
I know that neither would expect us to offer it up either!

Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
I would - we have an air mattress but I think they would have a hard time getting on and off it on the floor. So I would have them sleep in our room and Dh and I on the air mattress.

Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
I share a room with my twin girls. So, no one else wants it! We usually give them our sons bed & our Son will sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag. WE also have a blow up mattress if they feel bad about taking Patricks bed.

Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
Yes I would! Actually I gave up my house for his relatives to stay for our wedding.
We Moved out to a hotel for the 5 days they were there! We had 9 people staying at our house. My DH still owes me big for that one.

NO WAY!
My FIL sleeps in his undies....! NO THANKS! Where oh where is that Puking icon when you need it
There is not enough bleach & febreeze in the world to make that OK
MY FIL sleeps butt nekkid. Don't even ask me how or why I know that.
So the answer for me is a NO.
ETA: I also don't think THEY would be comfortable with it.

Re: My current "discussion" with DH: If your in laws were to stay over your house for the weekend...
helllsss no!
lol but in reality- i probably would b/c i was raised to do "the right thing" or at least offer the right thing.
i'm sure they would just refuse and either stay at a hotel or take whatever other option there was (aero bed, floor, couch, etc).
