I'm so sorry your dog got hurt and I'm glad shes okay. I'm wondering if there was a way to sue them for damages and I'm the last person to want a dog to be put down but thats just not right.
They are giving pits a bad name 
I would look into the health department to see if they can get involved, i know they get involved when theres a dog bite not sure if they would be the best for dogs attacking dogs but its a start. I would also contact the ASPCA they might be able to give you advice on what to do.

Thanks, hun. I know they are. The only thing that I can recover is Layla's vet bills/medication, which, really, is okay with me. I cannot (and nor would I want to), sue for pain and suffering. I am hoping they do the right thing so I can move past this. I don't want to deal with these people any longer than I have to. The best thing that I hope to come out of it is that they now take better care and make sure the dog secured when it is outside.

I spoke to an officer for the ASPCA and they cannot do anything, nor will any of the Town's departments deal with it. It didn't bite a human, only a dog. As far as everyone I spoke to is concerned it is a civil matter.

Listen I am the owner of a bully breed. My dog is an absolute mush and would never hurt a fly HOWEVER I always take the necessary precautions to make sure I am never in a bad situation. These people are not responsible dog owners. They need to be reported to the town, taken to court to cover your vet bill and they should have to put the dog into some type of training classes. I am so sorry for your poor dog. What an absolute sin!!
ITA. We have a pit and he is the most lovable dog ever! and gets along with everyone and any dog we get him with! he gets along amazing with my parents dogs, and im a firm believer that its all a result of the owner. these people are why these dogs get the bad rap and they should be held accountable. you should do whatever you feel you should do and i believe you should take them court and let them know that this cant go on anymore. listen our dog was attacked by a german short haired pointer and that was the most scary thing in my life to see my dog (pit) to be all shaken up by this, so i know what you are feeling and i think you should take acction against them!

This is absolutely making my heart break for your dog. She looks like such a sweetie and she didn't deserve that. I am so glad she is ok and I hope she feels better soon and isn't too traumatized going forward

You are entitled to the report via the Freedom of Information Act.
When you call the pct. ask for a Supervisor. In fact, every time you call, make note of whom you speak to. Explain to the Supervisor of the enitre incident and ask what's their response to this dangerous animal. So, basically you're telling them that there is a dangerous and vicious animal that has attacked your dog and people but more so, that they KNOW about it. Their failure to do something can be brought up in the future if anything should every happen again. You are informing and them and they should basically CYA as well.

Thank you! I found out from a friend at HQ in Mineloa that there isn't a report, just the 911 transcript. He said that he will get a copy for me so I wouldn't have to subpeona for it if I need it for court. Not sure if that is going to be enough but it's all I have. I'm going see how the neighbor's respond to the bill first.

My pup was attacked in Feb by my landlords dog. My little guy didnt survive the attack 
I think you should take them to court. It seems like this is a poorly trained dog. Thank God it wasnt worse

Oh my God, Barbie that is so, so terrible to hear and I very sorry about your sweet little guy. I cannot imagine the pain you must have gone through! How awful!

this makes me really sad! I'm so sorry that is happend to your dog!!! The owners should be responsible!! You had your dog on a leash they should do the same or keep your dog behind a fence!! This happened to my neighbor who was walking his old beagle last week on a leash and this guy opened his garage and this rottie ran out of the garage and attacked my neighbors beagle!! Lucky the guy was very sorry and paided for all the medical bills!! That really sucks what the ASPCA said!! You are correct a human or a child has to get bit for them to do something!!! Where is the protections for Animals!!! I would try to sue for the medical bills!!!Good luck and many hugs for you and your baby!!

This makes me so sad for your beautiful baby... and so angry at those irresponsible pet owners!
As far as reimbursement of the vet bill, he suggests that I put in a claim to their insurance company, not sure whether or not they would cover it because insurance co's do not cover pit bulls. He said, their homeowner's insurance will be dropped though if they did not inform their carrier that they own a pit bull and were never informed of the incident. Of course, to avoid this, they would have to be cooperative and pay the medical expenses.
I agree with this... I know when I was shopping insurance companies and I had a German Shepard, some companies wouldn't insure me... I'd bet they didn't own up to in with the ins co and that may make them more cooperative to pay the bills...

I am so sorry for your poor dog. I have gotten so nervous when walking my dog in different situations, what a nightmare!
Years ago, when we were in HS, my sister's boyfriend's family dog attacked her. He was a yellow lab but he was very big and pinned her down and did a lot of damage to her upper arm. She needed surgery and her bicept is severed to this day, 15 years later. Even with plastic surgery she has a lot of scar tissue.
It was a horrible thing and she was able to sue their homeowners insurance without suing them directly. So hopefully this is an option that you can look into so that you can get your poor dog's medical bills covered.
I hope your dog is feeling better very soon!

I have never had any fear or even thought about possibly encountering an agressive dog when walking Layla or even a person who looks suspicious. I sometimes walk her at midnight by myself. Since this happened I have been carrying around a spray can of air freshner  ! I don't have anything else right now. It's actually shocking how fearful I am right now.

I'm so sorry this happened to your dog. I would most definitely send them the vet bill. There is no way I would be paying the bill, whether I had the money or not it should be their responsibility since they were most definitely in the fault here. Maybe it'll teach them a lesson to keep their dog off the street. If they don't pay, take them to small claims court. I would NOT let this go.

omgosh. i just saw this post. how terrible!!! I cant believe theres really nothing you can do. I cant believe they need to wait for it to actually attack a child. Have you served them with any papers or the bill or anything yet?
