i'm sorry she treated you that way.she should love and accept him as he is,it seems the problem isn't with your son,its her,she has a big problem,she should talk to someone.just remember one thing...its your son...not hers..all you can do in life..is do your best for your kids..be the best mother you can..

That is just awful. I wonder what is in her head that she isn't saying. I don't think I'd do anymore long visits.

OMG...I am so sorry your mother said these horrible things to you. You are not a bad mother and you are doing all you can to help your son. She just does not understand his disability and apparently doesnt want to understand.

I totally agree!! Listen, to be honest I don't think ANYONE is a perfect parent. You make mistakes and you learn from them (not you personally )


And you know what?? And I'm sharing something personal.

My mother told me that she NEVER thought I would go to college because I HATED HS and told me I could NEVER be in the medical field (EMT or RN) because I'm not smart enough. I had a learning disability too.


I'm and ENGINEER now with a Masters.

So don't let her put you or anyone down and your son will learn everything when the time is right.

Wow what a shame your mother cannot appreciate her grandson for what he is. NO child is perfect, learning disability or not! I think you should go pick him up immediately
If you want to give her a snarky comment back, tell her that you are glad she can appreciate all the wonderful parenting skills that you learned from her.

I don't mean to make excuses for this behavior but let me offer you a thought.

First, most importantly, does she love and treat your son well?

If so, talk to your mom so she understands more and help her to see the reality. My mom gets like this as a defense when she is nervous or does not know how to handle a situation. She is "old school" and believes all can be fixed with the right discipline. I don't walk away from her - sometimes I let her rant and chat later and sometimes we fight.

But in the end, she's my mom and I know she loves me and means well. She may not go about it the right way all the time but it's with good intentions.

I believe children are on earth to teach us as much as we teach them... this applies to your mom too.

Good luck with this situation... count to 10 as they say... in the end its not important what your mom thinks/says... be confident in who you are and what you do as a mom. She can't take that away from you - stand tall.

Wow, I am just completely appalled that your mother said that to you.

I understand you have a new job and couldn't immediatley go get him - but I would definelty never let her spend a significant amount of time with him.
You just don't know what she could be saying to him!

If it were me - all her time spent with him would be with me, hovering over her. Thats if she was lucky enough that I ever let her see him again!
