My neighbor has carpenter ants...should I be worried?
Someone from terminix came to my house today and said my neighbors house has carpenter ants and his house is going to be treated tomorrow and he recommends we treat our house too because once they treat his house the ants will move over to ours (we are next door).
I have not seen any carpenter ants or bugs out of the ordinary. Apparently they are going to all the neighbors and offering a special treatments price being they are in the area.
Do you think its a scam or that they are right...once they treat the neighbors house the ants will come to ours?
I have two kids. I HATE the idea of using chemicals in or around our house.

Re: My neighbor has carpenter ants...should I be worried?
I have carpenter ants in my garden and they are creating a mess. I googled natural remedies and one of them was a 50-50 mix of sugar and borax. Borax is not toxic to humans, but will kill the ants. I haven't tried it yet because of the rain, will do so this weekend. I bought the borax at Waldbaum's, in the detergent aisle.
Another natural remedy is diatomaceuous earth. Spread a line between your house and theirs, and in front of your doors, garage doors and window sills. The ants will die once they crawl thru the d. earth because they will suffocate.
I'd be skeptical, because in my opinion, the treatment should kill the ants, not drive them away. But, I'd also ask how long the "special" price was good for.

That's what I was thinking. They said they treat in the walls, around the base of the house and even 15' of the lawn.
I am thikning there are other things I can use around my house.

I think its a load of BS.
There are always carpenter ants around, its not like your neighbor's house has some kind of exclusivity contract with them!
Its also not like they will get together and decide to move to your house instead.

I would not buy it.
My neighbors have been getting treated for termites and no one ever came to our homes, nor do we have any termite activity. I would pass on it.

I would wait until you get them before spending any money on it.
We get them every year and have to have an exterminator come, but they have never mentioned that the ants will go elsewhere!

I should have said this to him! I was really because I would think their treatments would kill them all.
