Thank you for sharing this. I thought I saw your pic on Newsday walking behind your brother at the Funeral on Monday and was thinking of you. My brother is also NCPD and I completely understand what you're saying about the economy as well as the morale of the officers. I didn't personally know Artie but my brother did and from what I hear, he was not only an amazing officer but just an all around amazing person. My heart breaks to think that his life is now over at the hands of a cold-blooded animal, it's not fair So many prayers for his soul, his family and the entire department. Such a shame.
The next time the news asks me for a quote, they did so at Officer Olivieri's funeral, but I said nothing - I was just sad that day and between the poking of questions and the following us as we walked into church clicking constantly taking our pictures, I was in no mood. But the next time they ask me - probably at Officer Lopez's funeral which should be Saturday, I'm going to give them an earful.
I'm going to tell them, and I truly believe this, that the residents of Nassau County need to wrap their arms, collectively, around this Department of Officers. We need to come together to support them as they are going through an unimaginably difficult time - this is the FOURTH line of duty death in less than 18 months. They are truly suffering. And, from what I hear, I don't know if Officer Lopez's partner will ever be able to work in the full capacity again - and, at the least, he'll never be the same. The residents, in my opinion, need to be supportive in ways similar to how the people of NYC bolstered the FDNY/NYPD after 9/11... That, we are here for you, we feel for you, we understand, and thank you for all that you do - is SUPER important, and I think - because Nassau's been kicked while it's down, I think the Department needs that. I feel like, if you are a resident - send some food over to your local precinct. Or to the hanger where ESU, BSO, and Highway keep their vehicles and have their offices - ESU lost Lopez, BSO lost Brietkopf, and Highway lost both Califano and Olivieri - so, send some ziti over to the men, send some soda over there. Whatever it takes - write out a prayer card, that you are thinking of them and praying for them. Then, write another for the families of the Officers - send that to the PBA and they'll pass it on to the families. Our family STILL receives cards from people about Kenneth and I can't tell you how much it means - the families need that, and the Department, the Officers - they need it too. It's so crucial. If you see a Nassau Officer, thank him for what he does - say, I'm so sorry to hear about the deaths of your fellow Officers, I'm thinking about you. Much like you thank a Vet for his service - these men serve the County and it's dangerous. That's what I want to say - because that's how I truly feel and in my heart, I feel it's so important. I just feel that these guys are hurting SO bad. It MIGHT help lift the spirits a little. The public opinion/feelings matter to them more than you think.
Now, how am I going to get all of that in a quote?
I hope you find a way to fit that in, because I do think people need to hear ... not just hear, UNDERSTAND this.
Print it out and hand it to them! Tell them that is your statement and to print it please!! That was so beautifully stated, hopefully newsday will do something right and let everyone read what you feel.
. I knew someone who loved him dearly.... I am so sad for her and his entire family.

Re: NCPD Cop shot in Queens
I'm so glad they found this beast.
I feel so badly for the NCPD, it's been a tough time for them. My family is so grateful for their hard work every day., I feel that my family is safe in this area because of this police force.
May the victims RIP

Re: NCPD Cop shot in Queens
I feel so sad about this officer being so brutally killed. He seemed like such a great guy, likeable, brave, adorable. Just seemed to have it all going for him and it disgusts me so deep inside that this man is gone, at the hands of such a disgusting POS.
So sad for the officer's friends and family.

And the worst part- someone paroled this animal and let him back out on the streets. It is disgusting.

Yes, as the child of a police officer, this infuriates me even more.

I think you should send this to your local newspapers, its wonderfully written and people NEED TO HEAR IT.
