need advice-flu shot now in 6 month old
ok ladies, just wanted to get some open minded advice regarding the flu shot. dd is going to be 6months. ped is recommending she get the flu shot, which is 2 shots one month apart. he said they are still seeing a lot of flu. i'm not opposed to the flu shot- i've gotten it myself. but being that it is already the end of march and by the time she is done getting the vaccine it will be the end of april, WWYD? i just don't want to give it to her if its really not worth giving at this point.

I would never, esp at the end of March. But only you can decide. Is your DC home or in daycare? My DD was home with me so that's partly why I would decide on not giving it.

Re: need advice-flu shot now in 6 month old
Your ped is right... There is a second peak of flu now.
That said, I only had DS get one flu shot when he was that old. Timing worked like yours and he was set for his second after flu season was over, so the pediatrician said never mind to the second.
I'd absolutely do it if your kid has any medical condition.
If he's healthy and you stay out of play places and crowds, you can probably wait it out. That being said, my entire family is sick and the pediatric office was packed! We just have a virus though! We all get the flu shot.

Great question. DD's 6 month well visit is coming up soon. Not sure what my ped's opinion is yet, but I am definitely questioning whether or not to have her get it. My first instinct is no.

I wouldn't. My DS got the flu shor in Sept and Oct. He is in daycare.
If he was justing getting it now I probably wouldn't do it. Daycare or not really doesn't even coeminto my thought process on it. Its more about being late in the season.

I wouldn't. DD turned 6 months in December and I declined it then too. I might do it next year, but I just didn't feel good about it this year. I can't even tell you why - just a feeling I had.

Personally, I would. The flu was (and still is) HORRENDOUS this year! I would not want to take a chance on my 6 month old getting it.

Re: need advice-flu shot now in 6 month old
My DS is 6 months and we opted for the flu shot. He is in daycare and extremely exposed. If he was at home with me I probably wouldn't have.
On a side note, it is so frustrating to me that they need this 2nd flu booster and it may not be available in a month!

DD is 10 months now and doesn't go to daycare so I opted to pass on the flu shot. I was just really careful about where we took her and who she was around. She already had so many vaccinations and I didn't want to add one more to the list. I personally would not do it, especially at the end of the season. Also, are you BF'ing? If so then she will have your immunity (or so Im told)

Re: need advice-flu shot now in 6 month old
I don't think I would do it now. It takes 2-5 weeks for the shot to become effective, and being that he will need the booster in a month, that will already be the end of April, and by the time he his fully protected, it would probably be mid-end of May, and flu season will be over by then. I'd wait until August/September and do it then.

Wash your hands good and always change clothes before holding her to be safer.

Re: need advice-flu shot now in 6 month old
I would find out if she gets it now can she get it again in the fall when flu season rolls around again. That would be my concern. I always do whatever my ped feels is best.

Re: need advice-flu shot now in 6 month old
I just gave it to DS , he turned 6 mo couple of weeks ago, I actually thought of nit doing it, but my DD is in kindergarten so they are exposed to a lot of germs. DS had Influenza when he was 2.5 mo old and he was so sick, it was a scary time, so I didn't want to risk it. If your child is not around older kids who are in daycare/school honestly I wouldn't do it.
