Re: Neighbors parking in front of our house ,is there anything I can do?
People on my block do the samething. I have never thought twice about it.
That is what the street is for.
You do not own the street. As long as it is legal to park on the street, they have just as much right as you do to park there.
Now, if they were blocking your driveway that's a different story.
I never really understood why people get upset over this.

Re: Neighbors parking in front of our house ,is there anything I can do?
I live in Queens... and this whole thread would so not fly here. Everyone pretty much HAS to park in the street, gasp infront of someone's house. But that's just the way it is. Not all houses have driveways and garages... and even if they do it usually only fits a car or 2 so with a multiple family dwelling or more than one car in a 1 fam home, that's just not going to work.
BIL's block was on the news MULTIPLE times because the people that live there are just insane and they put cones out infront of their houses so no one can park infront of their house (illegal). They even watch at the windows and come out screaming if you park legally on the street infront of their house. It's always a pleasure visiting BIL. I HATE HATE HATE that block with a passion. If you are visiting a family member you HAVE to park on the street!! It's just childish and ridiculous behavior for a Queens neighborhood. The thing is, they come out screaming at you and they don't even have a car to park there and don't need the spot. Have they ever learned about sharing in kindergarten???
Actually, we were there yesterday and someone posted a sign on a tree that's on the sidewalk, not even their technical property that you aren't allowed to walk your dog passed their house. LMAO!! If I lived on that block and had a dog, I'd walk it right passed there daily!! That's the most ridiculous crap I've ever seen. Again... another reason I HATE this particular block. I think they are all just crazy people!!
That's Queens though, I know LI is different for the most part. However, when there are people that work on the block and have no where else to park... where are they supposed to park from 9 to 5??? I just don't get that part. Again, in Queens when I used to work in this bank, the workers had to park on the street because there was no parking lot, this one crazy guy who didn't need the spot, and you weren't even infront of his house... just on HIS block... would get mad and spray paint or key your car!!!! What an ASSSHOLE he is!!!! Police would be called, but if you didn't physically SEE him do it, they couldn't do anything about it! Even though you knew it was him, because he would yell at you as you exited your car and he was always lurking around whenever these situations happened.

makes sense to take whatever parking space you can get. That's what it is all about. But in LI, since most people have driveways and room to park their own cars in that driveway or in front of their own house, it's just common courtesy to park around your own property since you CAN and have no need to park by someone else. We pay taxes for street sweepers (some towns). Many of us pay for landscapers who also clean the street by our homes. It's just plain rude for a neighbor to park there when they can park in their own driveway or in front of their own home. Don't rip me off of the services I PAY for (landscaper, taxes towards street sweeping, etc).

Re: Neighbors parking in front of our house ,is there anything I can do?
I posted something similiar a few weeks ago.
It drove me NUTS, I wanted to confront them, but DH didn't trust me to play nice So we started parking in front of their house, and when we could we took up BOTH spots. I would have parked IN their driveway, but that is always blocked off with whatever hooptie one of them is working on. Anywho, It worked !!!!! My issue was they would park in front of my house and not their own
I grew up in Astoria, i would say i spent half my life circling for parking( moving my car every 8 seconds for alternate side rules)....I DESERVE my spots, period. I pay a ridiculous amount of $ for my home, taxes, etc etc , no that doesn't cover the street, i don't "own" it but i think i have every right to be $issed off when i see a 1970 galoppy parked the opposite way in front of my house for weeks, months on end while their driveway is clear. I HATE that the front of their house looks like sanford and sons:
