i know this is TMI but i was talking to a friend today about delivery and she brought up "poopin" on the table im so scared this might happen to me just cause thats my luck. Is this normal? What are the chances of it?

Re: nervous about delivery....TMI
I had a c/s at Huntington Hospital and was given an enema. I might have rather pooped on the table than have an enema

Re: nervous about delivery....TMI
I had a C-section, so this wasn't an issue for me, but it's pretty common from what I hear. Don't worry, dr.s see it all the time adn from what my friend's sister told us (she's a midwife and her husband's an ob/gyn), they get it out of the way so fast that no one even notices. HTH!

This applies to vaginal deliveres.
First dont' be afraid...or nervous. It si normal. When you are in labor you are not going to care what comes out of you..lol. That being said...it will happen. It's normal..the baby is applying pressure to your bladder, etc and it's not something you can control.
A little TMI, but I went before I delivered and during...so just imagine..LOL!
Don't worry!

Re: nervous about delivery....TMI
100% normal. The nurse who did my birthing class said they at least know you're pushing correctly when it happens (and they clean it up quickly!).
(I delivered via c-section so it didn't happen to me)

It's very common!!
I did, but had no idea I did. I asked my DH and he told me. You are pushing soooo hard, I'm surprised my brains didn't pop out too
ETA the doctors and nurses are so used to seeing it. They cleaned it up in seconds. You'd never know it was there unless you saw it happen.

I was so nervous about that... I had a vaginal delivery and that is the last thing I thought about. If it happened, I didn't know :)

Re: nervous about delivery....TMI
Don't worry I'm an L&D nurse and have seen hundreds of women poop when they push and I clean it up asap. And so far I've never seen anyone point and laugh at the mom or bring it up as a topic of conversation during labor or after delivery!

I was so nerveous about this too. I actually peed on the doctor while pushing I know it freaks you out now but when you are in labor you are just trying to get the baby out it didnt even cross my mind.

I was afraid of that too.. turned out, while pushing, I could've cared less what the hell came out of me!!! It is very common, when you push you are bearing down as if you are having a bowel movement. I thought I did, (wishing it was in my dr's face) but it turns out I didnt... dont worry, you'll do fine...

Re: nervous about delivery....TMI
I had a c-section so I don't know about the pooping part. Pooping will probably be the last think on your mind at that point.

Re: nervous about delivery....TMI
Poop happens. Totally normal & not much you can do about it.
Think of it this way, there is only so much room in your body. You have a baby's head moving downward through the same area as your intestines. Whatever is in there is going to get pushed downward too.
After my first baby, I was told that I could get an enema beforehand for my second. I didn't get to the hospital in time for anything but to deliver the baby so no enema. I'm glad that I didn't because my friend did & she said it made it much worse & all over the place.
Also in case you didn't know, the way you push the baby out is exactly the same pushing you do as you're going to the bathroom. I pushed wrong (and was unproductive) for a while because I was afraid of going too. When you finally figure out that's the way the baby comes out...well as I said...poop happens.

Re: nervous about delivery....TMI
I gave myself an enema the night I left for the hospital to be induced. It was one of my fears as well. No poop here.

Re: nervous about delivery....TMI
Like everyone said - it happens.
It didn't happen to me and I did have a vaginal birth.
Did your MIL have a C-Section? 'Cause if not, she probably pooped too!

I was induced and the doc had the nurse give me an enema. If they offer you an enema, definitely have it done.

Re: nervous about delivery....TMI
OMG...i'm so scared of this also. I know everyone says you won't care when it happens but I think I would be mortified afterwards if my boyfriend or mom saw it. More so my boyfriend...my mom had 5 kids so she knows all about that kind of stuff...lol.
