Going to dinner on a whim Hanging out with friends all night Picking up and getting my nails done sleeping in All that stuff.....

It really isn't that bad. It's a big adjustment but you will still find time to do things that you'll enjoy.

Re: New moms, we are in for a RUDE AWAKENING..
It's all how you look at it. I kind of use my SIL as a guide. She has a 3 y/o and a 1 y/o. From moment one she has always gotten her nails done, her house is always clean, she always looks great, gets her hair done, clothing shops, etc. And her kids always look great, are very happy and smart. So it can be done. I'm having twins, so I know my life will be crazy. I am a home-body, so I don't care about hanging out all night since I haven't done that in years - and there is always take-out. Life won't be over for me, it will just be starting. That's how I choose to look at it.

it's not that bad, you can still do the things you want, just not as often. If I want to get my nails done or go out with friends, I leave the baby with DH . I have been out only 3 times with friends since dd has been born though, I just don't WANT to go out as much anymore and I am always
actually, come to think of it, I do not even remember what I used to do before dd was born. It is like there was never anything before she came along

I know exactly what you mean!!! In fact, before I was PG, I had nightmares of being with a baby and feeling 'trapped' in my house - not being able to just pick up and go.
Its definitely a big adjustment - I am hoping that my maternal insticts kick in and its all going to be worth it.

I consider myself pretty fortunate because I have 3 older sisters and a mom nearby. My sisters kids are all grown so they are anxious for the new baby. So as far as help, I think I am set. It will just be a matter of how I feel. DH is also very helpful with things so if I want to go get my nails done, he will take on the daddy responsibilty. It will be a major change, but one worth it and one I am sure we can all handle.

I'm not pregnant but I lurk on here and I had to comment...I know your life will change but I just know it will be so great! We had dinner with our best friends at their home this weekend; they just had a baby a few weeks ago and sure, it was different but man, they are blessed and this baby is a gorgeous little sweetheart. Their life is now different than ours, but better in a million OTHER ways! Made us both excited for the time when we're ready for kids!

Us too!! Lol!
However, although it is an adjustment, it gets easier and more normal with time. We now go out with Johnny to dinner every once in a while, and have sitters when we need to get out.
I never really got my nails done or hung out all night for a long time before him so i don't miss something i didn't have :)

I think about this sometimes too. DH says I do more now then I did before I got PG. I guess I'm trying to squeeze in everything now while I can.
That being said I can't wait for the baby to be here & we're lucky to have lots of family nearby to help out.

Re: New moms-to-be, we are in for a RUDE AWAKENING..
We have a 10 month old and still
Go out to dinner on a whim(we just have to go by 6pm and bring her along) Stay out late with friends(ok, my bro and SIL and one of us crashes at the other's house with the kids) Pick up and get my nails done(DH just watches her for an hour)
It is so different, yet so much more fun. We went to Benihana for my niece's first birthday and I never had more fun eating there before. You get to experience everything through your child's eyes again. Its the best

Re: New moms-to-be, we are in for a RUDE AWAKENING..
I started becoming a homebody before I got pregnant. I hang out with my girlfriends but I would much rather hang out with them at my apartment with a bottle of wine then going out to a bar. My friends are great and every month or so we do a pot luck dinner at someones house. In fact, 2 days before I got my BFP, I was at a bar with one of my friends. We were in the bathroom and girls in their early 20s were doing cocaine. I looked at my friend and said, this is how I KNOW I'd be totally fine with having a baby. Little did I know I was already pregnant.

Re: New moms-to-be, we are in for a RUDE AWAKENING..
Yes, I've thought of this before, and there are some things I loved doing with DH that we can't easily do with the baby early on (like going for bike rides together). But I think many of the changes will be worthwhile, and at this point, DH and I are home a lot anyway. We've been so busy working on our house since closing, we rarely go out to dinner or movies anymore, so it won't be such a tough shift.
Though I'm sure there will be times when we would like to do something and just can't.

Re: New moms-to-be, we are in for a RUDE AWAKENING..
I thought about this very thing on Saturday! It was the only truly lazy day I've had in a long time. Ate breakfast, napped on the couch for a while, hopped on the elliptical, ate lunch and watched a movie, showered and actually blew out my hair and slapped on makeup, went grocery shopping, cooked an awesome dinner....all the while thinking "I won't be able to do this. Oh and I won't be able to do this either. Or this."

We still do and did even when he was a newborn do all of the things mentioned. Our lifestyle really didn't change that much. Andrew has adapted to our lifestyle and never had to be home at his bedtime, etc. We made it a point to keep him flexible. And started bringing him out to dinner with us very early on.

Re: New moms-to-be, we are in for a RUDE AWAKENING..
For us, the beginning was the biggest adjustment and we were home most of the time. But by 3 months we started to get a handle on things and started to take DS out with us - everywhere. It's great and the summer was really easy - something about being outside just knocked him out
I agree with Stephanie...if I want to get my nails done, run some errands on my own or hang out with friends DH will watch him...but most times he comes with me to see friends...since they are all very happy to hang with him too. I find that the more he is out and around people the easier it becomes.
But the sleeping in...you can honestly kiss that good-bye I forget what that is even like.

Its going to be a change for the better! But I'm definately trying to get all the sleep I can in from now. Sleep, watch tv and just veg out....it won't be the same, but all totally worth it for our little munchkin!
