Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??

I just want to add, that when I take her out, we go out pretty much immediately after she eats. I know I have at least a good 3 to 3.5 hours before she is ready to eat again, this way I'm not rushing to get home to feed her.
i used to do this too when DS was a newborn...worked out well when i wanted to get out

Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??
I've been going for walks since we got home from the hospital..even if its only 5-10 minutes, I feel it's good for DS to get fresh air..plus he sleeps better @ night on the days he gets out
DS is 5 weeks old, and I started taking him out last week..I was going stir crazy. Went to Target & BRU..but I go in the middle of the day when it's not too crowded. It felt good to get out and do things..and it helped him get his days & nights straight because he was totally confused lol.
And yes, it's hard to get ready..even for like the dr's appt's, i feel like no matter how much time I give myself, I'm still late But it's getting easier. I pump and bottle milk so I can feed him outside..or supplement with formula.

Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??
Now that I am back to work I have a lot less time to go for a nice walk but I used to hook up with another new mommy friend and we would hit the streets with our little bundles as soon as we each finished one of our feedings. We would go for about a 1 and 1/2-2 hour walk and the kids would have a great nap!! Get out and enjoy!!

Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??
DH was deploying 2 weeks after DD was born so we had to take every minute and do with it what we wanted. We got the ok from the dr to go out for walks at her 48 hour check up. He said the fresh air would be good for her. She loved it! I know some mommies arent comfy with that until they are older, but even if you take her out to the mailbox and back if you dont have time to really go anywhere. I'm sure she will love it it. Babies LOVE feeling the air on their faces and toes

Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??
It's extremely hard for me to get out and DD is 3 mths old. I am exhausted and even taking a walk seems like a lot these days. I am hoping once hte weather gets nicer that will pass. I hear ya. In addition, my main reason at this point is the weather and the fact that my DD is so heavy, her combined with the infant carrier weighs like 30 lbs so it is very hard for me to lift. Plus she is so tight in there she really isn't comfy so it is such a turnoff to me to even go out at this point.
I just bought the Peg Perego Pliko Switch so she can face me in stroller, since the other strollers I had were her facing out (since she really isn't comfy in the snap and go/carseat much these days). So I plan to go out this weekend with our new stroller and hope that helps so she is comfy and I can still see her.

Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??
I had here out since she was 3 weeks because I take DS to preschool 2 days a week. We have also gone to TRU, CVS, and last night we went to the mall. That was exciting trying to get them both in the stroller I still need practice.
And if I need to run somewhere DH just stays home with them.
Tomorrow night I am actually going out for a few hours to a Southern Living Party and I am really excited to get out

Randi I have been out of the house only a handful of times. Three of those were Dr. visits, One was to go to my MIL, Twice to visit a friend and once shopping at BRU. I can't wait for Spring!!!

Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??
my only advice is to have a bag ready and packed with everything you need - diapers, wipes, burp cothes, formula/water (if you FF), cover/sling(if you BF) ... take a shower at night and basically just get yourself out.
Even if you walk around the block and come home, you would be surprised how much better, together, and accomplished you will feel.

Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??
Not yet but I'm dying to. The only "out" I've gotten is going to the dr appts.
I can drive starting next week and if the weather is nice - I'm so stepping out even if it's just for a quick errand or a short walk.

Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??
Definitely get outside--even if it's a bit colder (as long as it's not frigid) you can still go outside, just bundle her up.
I used to take DS out for walks right after he ate also. Initially our walks were short, maybe about 15-20 minutes, and as I got stronger and the weather got better, they increased in time.
It seems like a pain to do the snowsuit, get them in the stroller, etc., but it always did wonders for my mental health, and I think DS was a little happier with the change of scenery as well. He certainly slept better when I took him out at that age.
So find a way and get out!

Even with a back injury, I can't count the amount of times I was out with DD starting at about 2 weeks after she was born. I was SO stir-crazy and she really liked being out of the house!

Re: Newborn Moms-- do you get out at all??
Abby is only 11 days old, but I have not taken her out yet- just for one doc appt.
I am still not feeling too great... but even if I were, I think I would be too nervous to take her out alone, although I KNOW I need to. Maybe this weekend if it is warmer, DH and I will take her for a walk...
