ohhhhhhhh, that is my favorite lens.
What do you need?
I find that it works better on manual vs. aperature. You do have to play around with the settings a bit more to find your f/stop and ISO. I find (and maybe its just me) that its a bit more sensitive.
Some of the clearest shots I've taken have been with that lens - I love it.

Re: nikon mommies: having a problem with one of my lenses
well i put it on the camera body and set it to aperature, but when i tried to take a pic i got an error message on the top screen saying "ee".
i think i am confused as to what i should do with the aperature ring.
so i put it on aperature priority mode, do i manually move the ring or does the f stop get programmed via the the dial? does any of this make sense?

What camera do you have? That lens won't autofocus on a D40.
What are you trying to do with it?

You don't need to move aperture ring unless you set both the camera & lens to manual. Chances are your camera is set to auto, and your lens has no choice but to be manual focus.
So you'll have to manually move the focus ring to focus but you still set your aperature in camera.
Also be careful moving that aperture ring if your camera is not in manual mode (manual for the lens, not shooting mode) - you could damage the lens.

Re: nikon mommies: having a problem with one of my lenses
i have a d80. thanks for the responses. i just got this lens the other day but only took it out to use yesterday.
so if it is in auto, it will autofocus and choose the f/stop and shutterspeed as usual.
if it is in aperature mode, i set the f/stop, and the camera chooses shutterspeed and vice versa for shutterspeed mode. there is nothing for me to move on the lens itself.
if it is in manual, i set everything and manually focus if the lens is in manual mode.
did i get this all right?
