NON CIO mommies...help!
DS is 11 months old. In the last few weeks he just started pulling himself up in his crib. Prior to that, he used to put him to sleep at night and he would go to sleep on his own. We would lay him down, he would roll over and go to sleep. Now he rolls over, gets himself up and plays, then just starts crying. DH and I have been rocking him to sleep now. I don't think I can physically do CIO. What else can I do? What have you done? Is this a stage that he will grow out of? I need to hear from mommies who didn't use CIO. Thanks!

It's a stage, it'll pass
He's learning to stand and in his sleep he can't get back down. Try practicing with him during the day.. This is also prime time for separation anxiety. Try not to do anything you don't want to become a habit. I used to lay them back down in their beds, rub their bellies, or hold them til they were drowsy-no rocking, then let them fall asleep in their cribs.
My ped always tells me...it takes 3 days to start a habit, 2 weeks to break it...
I didn't do CIO with either of my girls and I have always had 2 awesome great sleepers without them crying their eyes out to fall asleep, and believe me i have some stubborn babies too!!
Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I was kind of thinking it could be those things... I just hope I don't have to CIO!

Re: NON CIO mommies...help!
I am a non-CIO mom. It took till month 13 for Athan to finally fall asleep on his own in his own crib (and until we were ready to break him of the habit of falling asleep in our bed). We tried CIO one night and it ended badly - for all of us. The next day we decided that we would lay down on the floor outside his crib so he would see us. We talked to him, soothed him, patted his back, reassured him we were there, turned on his FP Aquarium toy. It took 15 minutes of a few light cries and whines but he finally went to sleep. Next night the same - but it only took 5 minutes. When he would stand up, I would lay him back down and rub his back till he relaxed, tuned on the aquarium toy again, and talk to him tell him it's night-night time. It took a while but it was better for all of us. It takes less and less time every night. You just have to stick with whatever you decide to do.

Re: NON CIO mommies...help!
My son is almost 11 months and he went through the same phase about a month ago. He will actually start crying when he sees the bed. It is a phase and he is getting over it.
