ITA.
My dad is a retired cop and ITA with this statement. He wanted my brother to become a cop and I was like, what are you nuts? You are lucky you made it to retirement without getting shot, killed, a lawsuit against you, etc.
Police have a very tough job that is underpaid and underappreciated IMO.
i completely agree... i feel the same way with my husband.. he is underappreciated and is a scary thing.. i cannot wait till he retires.
I don't blame you. I admire you for being a policeman's wife. I saw what my mom went through all those years, and even us kids, always worrying if our dad came home late, etc.
Not easy to be a police officer or family member of a police officer. MOST police officers are doing their job the right way (most, not all of course but yes, MOST) and get nothing but backlash for doing their job and protecting themselves and others.

you're so sweet!! and "I" appreciate your Dad !! glad he is safe and retired!!
Not entirely safe. Still works with the PD in another manner, just not on police payroll. And he was volunteering for events such as 9-11 and I was like, ENOUGH already! *I* would like YOU to be around for me, you are retired, enough now.
Just too dedicated to the job that's for sure. Oh well. I still worry about him protecting people who are doing things such as this rioting crowd is doing.....when they wouldn't even appreciate it.

Re: NOT GUILTY on ALL counts!!!!
Tragic case all around, a family lost a loved one, and 3 cops will never be the same, their lives were changed forever. This is not the end for them, I am sure they will be put through the ringer again and again for a very long time.
There are no winners in this case, really.
I do agree with the verdict though, these cops acted in order to protect themselves. 50 shots can be fired very quickly, its not like they sat there and fired for 10 minutes.
If I was a cop and someone tried to run me down with a car intentionally, I would shoot too.

I dont understand why anyone would think that these cops were in so much harm that they had to ALL fire so many shots. The victims did not have guns did they?

They may not have had guns, but they had a deadly weapon, and that was a moving vehicle.

They tried to run the cops down with a car. Getting hit with a 2,000+ pound vehicle will kill you just as much as a gun will. The "victims" made references to having guns, so how were the cops supposed to know that they didn't really have them? Do you know how fast 50 shots are fired? It happens in seconds, and its not like they sit there and count how many times they fire.

ITA I didn't know if it was determined if the cops definitely heard that they said they had guns. But either way, I wrote the same thing above, they had a deadly weapon which was a moving vehicle.

Re: NOT GUILTY on ALL counts!!!!
I think what we need to accept, understand, and realize is that sometimes when things are THAT split second and decisions must be made, that tragedies CAN occur that are SAD and AWFUL they are NOT CRIMES.
AND, I feel we need to give our police officers the BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT when they are in the line of duty.
I'm sorry, but until each one of us is ready to put our lives on the line every DAY, leaving our spouses, parents, children at home with the potential realilty that you may NEVER see them again....NO.
brutality is ONE thing and should not and CANNOT be tolerated.
but the vindictivness and the vengefulness with which we are able to go after those who, on every other day are there to PROTECT us, and who we expect to DIE trying...it saddens me.
I am sorry for Sean Bell's family. I am sorry for all of the families effected by this TRAGEDY.
I have read enough about the Judge in the matter to have believe and faith that his rendering was based solely on the facts at trial, and not for any political or racially motivated reason. this is not the first police trial he's presided over, and he's even sided AGAINST the police in the past, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he WOULD have in this case if he saw enough evidence to convict them.
May God bless everyone at this time.

I dont think there are any winners here. It is a tragedy all around for the family and the officers. There are bad cops just like there is bad in every profession but MOST are not bad and risk their lives every day. for all involved.

To be totally honest, I kind of find it disheartening that people are clapping and jumping up and down about this. How sad is that? An unarmed man lost his life and we are applauding this....
It's disgusting in my opinion. I won't even put into words what I am feeling now.

No one is applauding that anyone died.
People are applauding that police officers, who risk their lives to protect YOU and your family and all of us, are not going to be punished for a lifetime for simply trying to protect others and even themselves (nevermind that their lives are affected regardless of not receiving jailtime).
No one is clapping b/c someone died at all.
